DPHS Community Member,
I hope this week's edition finds you having enjoyed a safe and relaxing weekend! In only two weeks, our Panthers will be on Thanksgiving break (Nov. 20-24). Knowing that, and then looking over this issue prior to release, I notice how we have included several opportunities for our DP community to lend a hand during this special time of year. I am very aware that the US economic situation has been challenging for both our households and local businesses, but if you would, kindly invest a few moments to at least read through what has been included today. Inflation being what it is, you may not be able to do much, but please remember that event the smallest gift means so much whether it be channeled towards our chorus program, student council, PTSA, or even a student in Haiti needing a helping hand with school supplies. Thank you very much for your thoughtfulness.

Dr. Phillips senior Kaitlyn Ellenback was recognized last week at the Orange County Supervisor of Elections office by Bill Cowles for being the high school level sticker contest winner out of all contestants in Orange County. Kaitlyn is pictured at the very top of this issue with her family as well the winners (and their families) from the elementary and middle school levels.

Congrats Kaitlyn! Keep an eye out for her sticker (above) when you vote next November!

Panthers, remember to do your best making each of these next 10 instructional days leading up to Thanksgiving count, and thank you very much for reading.

We look forward to recognizing our October recipients on November 8th during our staff meeting.
Support Staff of September- Ms. Alexis Garrand!!

The PreK autism unit runs much smoother thanks to our very own Ms. Gerrand. She assists with delivering all areas of instruction to our PreK students: all while juggling the many needs of this classroom of our smallest Panthers. She provides our PreK students with the greatest guidance and patience. Our young Panthers are very fortunate to have her caring and nurturing guidance throughout the day!
Teachers of September - Mr. Steve Schyck!
Steve Schyck is our ESE team utility player! He is open and prepared for any role on our ESE team. While he is very professional, his comedic relief throughout the day makes even the most challenging day enjoyable. Most importantly, he keeps a firm handle on his students and they appreciate his guidance, knowledge, and professionalism.
Teachers of September - Ms. Patricia DeNoon!!
Testing a school with over 3,000 students, on a campus as large as DPHS, is a huge task! Ms. DeNoon continues to strengthen testing systems and is receptive to feedback to better support staff, students, and families in regard to all things testing. On the first day of administering the FAST PM1 in August, she successfully tested 91% of our 9th and 10th graders!

Art Drawing / AP Art History
We have had a spooky week in Studio 1-129! Drawing 1 kicked off the spooky season with their Monster Mash drawings, followed by a Mostly Ghostly Week. For the Monster Mash, students put their own spin on classic cryptids (picture with monsters) And our Mostly Ghostly week featured out classroom ghost who dressed in different outfits and moved around the room each day. Students were tasked with drawing our ghost in a different style each day.

The spookiness spread into AP Art History on Halloween when students worked on a study of Edvard Munch’s, The Scream, from 1893. The students enjoyed working with oil pastel on cardboard to create their studies, and now have their work displayed in the Art Studio 1-129 case!

Immediate transition to college from high school = 62%
Question: How many high school seniors go straight to college after high school?
Answer: Of the 2.7 million US high school students who graduated in 2021 (latest year available), some 1.7 million (or 62 percent) were enrolled in college shortly after leaving high school. The percentage of high school graduates who are enrolled in 2- or 4-year college institutions within a few months are included in the "immediate college enrollment rate." The overall immediate college enrollment rate in 2021 was lower than the rate in 2010 (68 percent - see second column in table below).
