La Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica hosted our traditional “Corazoncitos” event for Valentine’s Day.  We want to thank the members who helped out and participated. Special shout out to: Mr. Ortíz, Mr. Marín and Mrs. Blair!

Monday, February 24, 2025

Hello Mark,

This is the last week before our 9th and 10th grade students take the third and final Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (F.A.S.T.) Progress Monitoring Assessment (PM3) which runs March 3-5. PM3 provides a summative score at the end of the year to measure student mastery of the grade-level content standards as set out by the Florida Department of Education. As a reminder for our parents, results for F.A.S.T. assessments are reported in the Florida Reporting System within 24 hours of the students completing testing. DP parents will be able to quickly view their student's PM3 results through the Florida Reporting System available in the FAST portal - Instructions. If you have a freshman or sophomore in attendance this year, please be sure they are on-time for school March 3-5 following a good night's rest.

As we approach our annual spring testing period (schedule below), I want to thank all of our teachers and members of the leadership team for their efforts since school began last August 12th. They have made a huge effort all year focusing on instruction. With added support from our parents/guardians at home, it is these dedicated teachers and leaders who make the difference preparing our Panthers for assessment by making sure they have been learning all along. The community should know that the teachers arrive on campus every morning prepared to make sure each of our students obtains a quality education during their time at DP.

Congratulations to our Lady Panthers Basketball team on their 74-41 defeat of Centennial High School last Friday evening as they have now earned a spot in the Final 4 round of this year's State Championship playoff series. They will play Miami-Dade County's Doral Academy Preparatory School (21-7) March 7 in Lakeland in the state semifinals.

Speaking of Panther sports, the weather forecast for this week looks to be pretty favorable over most days. Be sure to review the Panthers' schedule if you would like to get out for a little quality family time while enjoying some competitive games. We have an outstanding athletics department and this is a great time of year to take in some of the action!

Thank you for reading.

CIS Takes Over St. Augustine

On Wednesday, February 5, CIS juniors traveled to St. Augustine. Students explored the city’s history through an interactive scavenger hunt, Old City trolley tour, and a tour of the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument. Through this experience, students experienced the principles of CIS first-hand through their exploration of history, leadership, and unity. Additionally, students got an up-close look at topics they have been studying in U.S. History, and many were even able to extend our World Banquet experience through their exploration of cuisines from different cultures.

Join the 2025-26 Yearbook Staff

As you consider your courses for next school year, keep joining the Yearbook Staff in mind! This is not your average elective class... Journalistic writing, digital photography, graphic design, and business management are all skills you can grow on the DPHS Yearbook Staff. There’s a place for EVERYONE on the Yearbook Staff - as long as you’re not afraid of a little hard work. The best thing, though, is getting to see the payoff of all your effort and energy when the yearbook arrives. Working on the Yearbook Staff not only looks good on your college or career applications but also gives you an incredible chance to express yourself verbally and visually. If you are interested in working on a 350-page group project that the whole school and community get to see, consider applying to join! Please complete and submit all components of this application by Friday, March 28th!

Want to find out what being on the Yearbook Staff is like? Come to our *Yearbook Open House* (in the Yearbook Room 1-121 in the VPA Hallway during your lunch on February 24th, 25th, and 26th) to chat with our current staffers, check out our camera and design equipment, and tour the Yearbook Room.

Girls Basketball in the FINAL 4!

Orlando Sentinel (Feb. 22) - Ocoee, Dr. Phillips, CFCA earn FHSAA girls basketball state tourney berths by Jean Racine and Chris Martucci

FHSAA Class 7A Final 4 Brackets

DP dominates

Dr. Phillips’ quest for a historic four consecutive Class 7A state championships stayed alive in dominating fashion in Friday’s Region 2 championship game. The Panthers defeated Centennial 74-41 to secure their place in the state semifinals.

Five DP players put up double-digit scoring, led by senior Anilys Rolon’s 14 points, as the team awoke from a first-quarter slump to leave no doubt about the outcome. Dr. Phillips (19-9) went into halftime leading 36-20.

“We prepare for the higher stage, and that’s what helps us get through all the adversity and the tough games we may have,” said Dr. Phillips head coach Anthony Jones, referencing his team’s difficult regular-season schedule. “I like this year’s team. They’re very talented, they’re unselfish, and they move the ball around. It doesn’t matter who’s the star.”

Junior guard Kendall Perry scored 13 points. Senior forwards Elise Horne (12 points) and Sariah Johnson (10) added to the offensive output, as did junior guard Jamila Ray, who finished with 10 points and made major contributions with defense and rebounding that helped the Lady Panthers wear Centennial (18-9) down as the game went on.

Ray spent most of the 2023-24 season on the bench after tearing her ACL.

The Panthers carry a 27-game winning streak into their March 7 semifinal in Lakeland.

FHSAA power rankings had Dr. Phillips No. 3, Ocoee No. 4 and Timber Creek No. 5 going into district-tournament play. Winter Haven was No. 1 and Doral Academy No. 2.

Policies & Procedures

* Please remember that due to being a fire and trip hazard, blankets are not allowed on school campus. A staff member will first give a warning to put away and not to bring back. If the student refuses, the blanket will be stored in building 700 (Discipline Office) for students to pick up after school.

* Per OCPS: Delivery of food or beverages from off campus to students is not allowed during the school day. This includes food delivery from services such as Uber Eats or DoorDash. All students are able to eat free lunch and breakfast in our cafeteria every single day. After-school meals are also available for students who attend after-school programs. Parents/Guardians are not to bring food or drop off to students, unless documented as a dietary restriction or medical condition. Please reach out to drphillips_hs@ocps.net with any questions or concerns. https://drphillipshs.ocps.net/school_information/food_services

* Students who arrive after 7:20am will come through the front office (not the gate) and receive a green late pass to 1st period.

* Students, please remember that you are not allowed to leave your classroom in the first or last 10 minutes of every class period.

* Students, your job here at school is to attend class and succeed in your studies and extracurriculars. Please make sure you are arriving to ALL of your classes on time and are attending each of your classes throughout the day, every day. Poor attendance, skipping, and tardiness can and will have a negative impact on your grade. If you are absent for a doctor's visit or anything else that warrants an excused absence, please make sure to submit a signed note to the front attendance office as soon as possible once you return to school.

If you have 5 unexcused absences in a calendar month or 10 in 90 days you are considered truant and can lead to school and legal consequences (driver license revoked for example).

* Panther Parents and student drivers, please remember that there is only ONE (1) lane to turn right into the student parking lot and student drop off lanes. Please do not cut off other cars or attempt to turn right from the center lane. This not only can cause an accident but endangers yourself, the other drivers around you and anyone walking in the immediate area. As a reminder, you should also NEVER be dropping your students off ON Turkey Lake Road. This is extremely dangerous, especially in the dark mornings and could cause you or your student to be harmed if other cars do not anticipate your stop or see your student. The only place your student can be dropped off is in the drop off lane on DPHS campus. Remember, arriving early means your student can be dropped off quicker and safer. Please plan accordingly!
