The Panther Post
Monday, September 26, 2022
DPHS Community Member,

Congratulations to our varsity football team as they had back to back wins in a single week: 34-24 over Boone Friday night preceded by a 35-0 victory vs. Windermere on Monday. The Panthers are next scheduled to play at home vs. Lake Nona's Lions (2-2) Thursday evening in a district game.

An important request of our DP parents with only nine school days left in this first quarter. Once per week, please invest the time to review your student's academic progress using the Skyward and Canvas student information systems. Skyward is the official attendance and grade book of record and Canvas is the learning management system that houses assignments and coursework.

Please know that the district is closely monitoring Tropical Depression Ian which could develop into Hurricane Ian. It is still too soon to determine the exact impact on Orange County (as of Sunday) but at this point there are no plans to cancel school or extracurricular activities. More updates to come so please visit OCPS.net for the latest weather related news and the possible impact on school operations.

Thank you for reading and please be sure to get your tickets to our Theatre Magnet's production of Jimmy Buffett's Escape to Margaritaville which opens Friday evening!

DP Freshman Art Student
Luis Martinez, Assistant to Mayor Buddy Dyer, with Eva Rocha, VPA 9th grade
Congratulations to one of our very own VPA 9th grade Art student, Eva Rocha, who was selected to showcase their artwork in this year's Hispanic Heritage Month Exhibition at the City Hall, Orlando. When asked about showcase, Eva said, “"My experience participating in this year’s Hispanic Heritage Moth at Orlando City Hall was breathtaking, I was exposed to many other artists and being the youngest one there I was interviewed. Being able to be interviewed and talk to older artists with more experience than me was amazing. If I get the chance again I would do it again and I would encourage someone to do the same."

Congratulations to our Varsity Football team on another win Friday night over Boone's Braves.
Orlando Sentinel (Sept. 23) - "Dr. Phillips 34, No. 11 Boone 24"

Excerpt from the article written by J.C. Carnahan:
Justin Stith’s two-way performance helped the Panthers claim their second win of the week after starting the season 0-3.

The senior receiver had around 200 yards receiving and also returned an interception for a touchdown. Five of his catches set Dr. Phillips (2-3) up in the red zone, and they converted four times for touchdowns.

“I’m a Lebron fan and a Jordan fan, so it was GOAT-like tonight,” head coach Rodney Wells said. “He took over tonight…and got us into the red zone every time. That’s what we expect out of our seniors.”
