Dr. Michael Silverman Selected for Torch Award for Ethical Leadership
Arlington, VA – The Leadership Center for Excellence has selected Virginia Hospital Center Emergency Department Chairman Dr. Michael Silverman for the 2021 Dominion Energy Torch Award for Ethical Leadership. The award will be presented virtually at the Leadership Center’s annual Leadership Summit on Friday, May 21.
Dr. Silverman has become a household name and calming presence in Arlington, Virginia throughout the pandemic, as well as a model for medical providers around the country. Knowing the fear of the community and the desperate need for information, he sacrificed his much-valued privacy and opened up his personal Facebook page for the “Friday night updates” that the community has come to know every week. He knew it was important to cut through the noise in the media and provide “straight-talk” information. Between his demanding duties over the past year, Dr. Mike has written extensively on pandemic topics on both his personal Facebook page and for Emergency Physician’s Monthly in their Director’s Corner.
“We are so honored to present Dr. Silverman with this award. He has carried a torch of leadership, candor, and self-sacrifice to keep our community safe and healthy” said Lisa Fikes, Acting President and CEO of the Leadership Center for Excellence. “We will forever be grateful to him and his team for their heroic efforts this past year.”
“During the darkest days of the pandemic, Dr. Mike Silverman was like a beacon in the night providing critical information and guidance to keep his community safe. At Dominion Energy our top core values are Safety and Ethics, which Dr. Silverman demonstrates every day through his leadership at Virginia Hospital Center,” said Scott Price, Dominion Energy Regional Policy Director. “We are grateful for his service and delighted to present Dr. Silverman with the Dominion Energy Torch Award for Ethical Leadership,” said Price.
The award will be presented by Scott Price, Regional Policy Director for Dominion Energy during a half-day of leadership development and training that profiles leadership over the course of the pandemic and the lessons learned for leaders in the future. The Summit features keynote speaker Hoda Kotb, co-anchor of NBC’s “TODAY” and best-selling author. Attendees will have the opportunity to network with other leaders on the Shindig virtual platform. Tickets for the event can be purchased through the Leadership Center for $50.
