Greetings,
I trust that this edition of Gallon’s Good News finds you well and finding strength as we approach the final stretch of the 2022-2023 school year. During this time, I want to encourage and commend you and your efforts as we continue to support our students’ successful participation in the 2023 Annual State Assessments. I trust that our students will find confidence in their preparation and will continue to excel and achieve at even higher levels.
As you continue to press forward on behalf of our students, I want to express my deepest appreciation for what you do, how you do it, and most important, who you are as a member of the Miami-Dade County Public Schools and role you play in the learning and lives of our students. Let’s finish the year strong and keep up the great work!

Dr. Gallon continues to be actively engaged in his role as a policy maker, as he successfully proposed a School Board agenda item for the April 2023 Board Meeting that received unanimous approval and support from the Board.
He addressed Educational Facilities Impact Fees in which he requested a review, and where appropriate, initiate rulemaking consistent with the requirements of the Educational Facilities Impact Fee Ordinance/Interlocal Agreement and the Interlocal Agreement for Public School Planning, for Educational Facilities Planning, County Ordinance and State Statutes regarding the frequency of review and/or requests for revision to EFIF rates; and re-engage Miami-Dade County and other stakeholders in preliminary discussions concerning the process for a review of EFIF rates and to take other action as deemed appropriate to implement the requirements of this item and determine whether it is feasible to recommend revising the EFIF formula and rates.

District 1 Town Hall Meeting
|
|
On April 5, 2023, Dr. Gallon had a great evening of information and engagement at the District 1 Town Hall Meeting held at Miami Carol City Senior High School. He was pleased to provide updates on District 1, as well as related educational issues.
Dr. Gallon also thanked those who came out in support of the work of improving their schools, uniting their communities and educating their students.

Boys & Girls Club Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at Frederica S. Wilson/Skyway Elementary School
|
|
Dr. Gallon joined Congresswoman Frederica Wilson, educators, elected officials, and community stakeholders on the morning of April 12, 2023, for the Ribbon Cutting and partnership launch of a Boys and Girls Club Program and Facility at Dr. Frederica S. Wilson/Skyway Elementary School.
This new program will provide access and opportunities to children and youth at surrounding District 1 schools and the Miami Gardens area.

District 1 Student of the Month Recognition Ceremony
|
|
On April 18, 2023, Dr. Gallon had a great evening at the District 1 Student of the Month Recognition Ceremony held at Lake Stevens Middle School celebrating their students for their excellent academic performance and outstanding attendance, attitudes, and behaviors in their schools and communities.

District 1 Student Advisory Council
|
|
Dr. Gallon had a wonderful time at the last District 1 Student Advisory Council meeting of the 2022-2023 school year on April 20, 2023.
It remains a tremendous honor and privilege for Dr. Gallon to meet and engage with these students to receive invaluable feedback and insight regarding District 1 schools.

Fathers In Education Event
|
|
Dr. Gallon served as the Keynote Speaker for the Fathers in Education event held at Madie Ives K-8 Preparatory Academy on April 20, 2023. He was proud to see and speak in front of so many fathers who came out to support the education of their children.
Dr. Gallon spoke on the importance of providing, protecting, and being present in the lives of children.

School Board Budget Workshop

Dr. Gallon attended the School Board Budget Workshop on April 26, 2023, to talk about the proposed budget for 2023-3024 and any associated legislative matters.

On April 26, 2023, Dr. Gallon had a great taping of the latest episode of “Real Talk" with Dr. Steve Gallon III with special invited guest Dr. Marcus Bright of the Miami-Dade Economic Advisory Trust (MDEAT).
Dr. Bright spoke on MDEAT's objective and strategies for tackling issues of economic fairness and youth development in Miami-Dade County.

Arts Education with The Miami Foundation Meeting
|
|
Dr. Gallon had a great meeting with Nikisha Williams on April 26, 2023, to discuss an initiative to expand Arts Education access in District 1. As an advocate of the Arts, Dr. Gallon believes it is critically important that we engage external partners to expand access to Arts Education to students.
Dr. Gallon gave a special thanks to The Miami Foundation for their continued commitment and partnership.

Children’s Trust Champions for Children Awards Luncheon

|
On April 28, 2023, Dr. Gallon attended the Children’s Trust Champions for Children Awards Luncheon to congratulate all of the honorees. He was very honored to be a part of a group that supports and serves children.
Dr. Gallon saluted Jim Haj and the entire Children’s Trust team for the event and all that they do for children, families, and the community all year long.
