Greetings:
It is with great honor, pride and humility that I continue to serve the students, parents, and community members of District 1. As the school year comes to a close, I want to again thank and commend you for your work in improving the learning and lives of our students and uplift of our community. This school year has seen tremendous success and improvements in our District and I am extremely proud of the work that is being done by our teachers, district and school leaders, parents, and community stakeholders. It has also brought with it our serving witness to challenges and tragedies near and far, and our collective resolve and resilience to rise above them all.
As we near the summer months, we want to continue to encourage our students to prepare and remain engaged in educational enrichment so that we can keep this momentum and continue on our journey to improve the lives of our youth. Thank you for all you have done and continue to do. I look forward to your continued support, encouragement, and efforts.
Have a Happy and Safe summer!
Let’s Work!

District 1 Sweeps the 2023 Technology Leaders Initiative (TLI) Inventions Expo!
By Dr. Katsia M. Cadeau
Giving priority to urban schools' science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education promotes inclusivity. It encourages minority students to engage with STEM subjects, which can lead to increased representation within these career fields. Investing in STEM education has far-reaching benefits, fostering students' critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and innovation. District 1 implements The Yaeger Foundation's Technology Leaders Initiative® (TLI) curriculum to equip its students with valuable skills and knowledge required for future academic and career success. Student teams learn by creating problem-solving inventions, business plans, and product commercials. The TLI Invention Expo showcased their completed projects on Saturday, May 20, 2023. Mr. Ivan Yaeger (Executive Director of The Yaeger Foundation, Inc.) announced the winners following the project presentations. District 1 schools scored first, second, and third place wins for their creativity, ingenuity, and ability to apply STEM concepts to real-world challenges.
The success of District 1 in this initiative reflects the dedication and support provided by Dr. Steve Gallon III, administrators, educators, parents, and the community. It is an inspiring example for other districts and educational institutions to follow, demonstrating the positive outcomes that can be achieved when STEM education is made a priority. We applaud Mr. Yaeger, the pioneer of this great program, for his continuing collaboration with Miami-Dade County Public Schools. Special thanks are extended to St. Thomas University Education students who facilitated the program for ten weeks. Congratulations to District 1! Keep Shining!
