Greetings:
It is with great honor, pride and humility that I am able to serve the students, parents, and community members of District 1. I remain committed to my promise to each and every one of you as we collectively work to improve the learning and lives of our children. This school year has seen tremendous challenges, as well as opportunities for success and improvements in our District. In doing so, I am extremely proud of the work that is being done by our teachers, district and school leaders, parents, and community stakeholders.

Once again, it was a great evening at Lake Stevens Middle where Dr. Gallon celebrated and honored the February Student of the Month recipients at the District 1 Student of the Month Recognition Ceremony. |

"Real Talk" with Dr. Steve Gallon III

On February 16, 2022, Dr. Gallon had a great launch of the “Real Talk” with Dr. Steve Gallon III. The first episode featured guests were Princess Moreau of Norland Sr., Snailey Dol of North Miami Sr., and Terrence Rollins of Carol City Sr.
This unscripted, unfiltered engaging discussion covered topics including academics, COVID-19's impact on learning and life, mental health, social justice, and plans after graduation.
These members of the District 1 Student Advisory Council provided insight from a student’s perspective—-one of the most important—and on the work of M-DCPS and their present and future lives.

6th Annual District 1 Black History Showcase |
|
Dr. Gallon had an amazing night of talent from District 1 students at the 6th Annual District 1 Black History Showcase.
Once again, he provided a platform for the students of District 1 to display their artistic, musical, visual, and performing arts talent in celebration of Black History Month.
Dr. Gallon gave thanks to all of the parents, educators, and community supporters that were in attendance to celebrate and applaud their students.

Black Student Union of St. Thomas University Discussion |
|
Dr. Gallon visited St. Thomas University where he was a participating panelist engaging with the Black Student Union. He was honored and humbled to offer learning, life, and lived perspective as a Black, specifically a Black man in society today, as well as nuggets of wisdom as the struggle for equality and equity continues.
He was thankful for the invitation and for allowing him to share the stage with other distinguished panelists and students.

North Dade Center of Modern Languages

It always gives Dr. Gallon great pleasure to deliver a message during Black History Month to the students of North Dade Center for Modern Languages.
As he embraced his roots as a classroom teacher and shared with them the journey and struggle of Blacks in America starting in 1619, he reminded the students that they epitomize what this nation and world needs as a collective to truly provide for equality and equity now and in the future.

Urban School Board Alliance Advisory Committee |
|
On March 13, 2022, Dr. Gallon traveled to Lawrenceville, GA to attend the Urban Boards Alliance Advisory Committee. There to be part of the process for a new beginning and national voice for urban education. |
|
Dr. Gallon had a productive meeting with District leadership, coaches, and Ralph Arza, Commissioner Appointee and voting member of the FHSAA to discuss recent changes to high school football classifications.
Dr. Gallon believes sitting down at the table can sort out facts from fiction and begin dialogue around possible resolutions.

Dr. Gallon had an amazing night as he celebrated the achievements and successes of their students at the March 2022 District 1 Student of the Month Ceremony held at Miami Norland Senior High.
He gave a huge congratulations to all of honorees.

"Real Talk" with Dr. Steve Gallon III

It was an amazing episode of “Real Talk" with Dr. Steve Gallon III with Tanisha Cidel and her student Alyssa Scott.
Dr. Gallon engaged in a very deep, powerful and moving discussion around her work in Arts Education, and the success she has brought to students in the film and television industry— her legendary work as a veteran educator and Theater Director at Norland Middle School.

School Board Workshop on Technology |

Dr. Gallon was actively engaged in the discussion of educational equity, access, and upgrades in certain communities for student technology, as well as economic parity and procurement opportunities at the School Board Workshop on Technology.

Meeting with the Chief Auditor |
|
Dr. Gallon had a great meeting with Chief Auditor Jon Goodman, to review and discuss opportunities to improve transparency and accountability in the district and throughout schools. |

It was truly an honor for Dr. Gallon to be awarded by the ladies of Phi Delta Kappa for his leadership and service in education.
It was a humbling moment for him to have member Gia Allen to reflect personally on her experiences and witnessing of his impact nearly 15 years ago.
He thanked them once again for the tremendous honor and recognition.

AFSCME Employee of the Year Recognition Ceremony |
|
On April 8, 2022, Dr. Gallon had a great evening celebrating the contributions and impact of an outstanding group of employees at the AFSCME Employee of the Year Recognition Ceremony.
The members of AFSCME represent the front line and foundation of M-DCPS. They feed, transport, protect, and serve their students with leadership and love.
He gave a huge congratulations to all of the honorees. "We appreciate their continued dedication and service to the district, community, and most importantly, our students," stated Dr. Gallon.

Issiah John Edwards Legacy Foundation Inc. Scholarship Gala |
|
Dr. Gallon was honored to stand with the “village” to support and salute the outstanding District 1 students from the Class of 2022.
He gave special congratulations and gratitude to Issiah Edwards and the Issiah John Edwards Legacy Foundation for investing in their children’s future through the awarding of scholarships.
He also saluted and gave gratitude to all who came out to support this great event and worthy cause.

Recognizing the Miami Norland Viking Freedom Writers |
|
Dr. Gallon had a great start of the day at the April 13, 2022 School Board Meeting by recognizing the outstanding Viking Freedom Writers under the amazing leadership, vision, tutelage, and love of Dr. Precious Symonette.
Recently, they have been included in a recently published book, “Dear Freedom Writer: Stories of Hardship and Hope."
Dr. Gallon will be purchasing this book to be available in all District 1 schools.
He gave a special congratulations to Principal David T. Ladd, the students, and all who have made their accomplishments possible.

April Student of the Month Recognition Ceremony |

At the April 2022 District 1 Student of the Month Recognition Ceremony there was a great energy that filled the room. It is always a pleasure for Dr. Gallon to celebrate students for their achievement and success in academics, attendance, assessments, attitude, and actions that improve their school and help others.
He gave a special thanks to Torri Ragin, President of the International Longshoreman Association Chapter 1416, for their generosity and support of their students and to Pastor Artie Jackson, for his recognition of the Student of the Month at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church service, it really inspired many students to want to achieve even further and receive this recognition.
As always, Dr. Gallon congratulated all of the honorees and all of the members of the District 1 “Village” that support learning, achievement, and the overall success of their students.

Once again, Dr. Gallon wrapped up another powerful episode of “Real Talk" with Dr. Steve Gallon III. This episode included the amazing educator Dr. Precious Symonette and two of her outstanding students, Terrain and Innocent.
They discussed the work of the Freedom Writers and the Viking Freedom Writers and their inclusion in a highly acclaimed published book, Dear Freedom Writer, as well as critical issues facing teachers and those in the field of education.

District 1 Town Hall Meeting at Miami Carol City Senior |

On the evening of April 26, 2022, Dr. Gallon enjoyed speaking to educational stakeholders at the Quarterly District 1 Town Hall Meeting held at Miami Carol City Senior High School.
In addition to sharing updates on District 1 efforts and initiatives, Dr. Gallon held an engaging discussion on School Culture and Climate and the critical nature of Strong Principal and Instructional Leadership.

Career Day at Joella Good Elementary |
|
On April 29, 2022, Dr. Gallon had a great start of the morning speaking at Career Day at Joella Good Elementary School. It was very rewarding for him to share with students his personal, educational, and professional journey which paved the way to his present position of leadership and service.
Learning is connected to living…the message that he delivered, in hopes that they will remember for the rest of their lives.
