Greetings,
I hope that this edition of Gallon's Good News finds each of you and your family on a successful journey through the 2023-2024 school year. As the Holiday Season fast approaches and the school year moves forward, let's continue to embrace a spirit and commitment of hope, optimism, and love for learning.
Please know that we continue to recognize that the great work of the Miami-Dade County Public Schools has and continues to be achieved on the backs of each you as a stakeholder and supporter of public education.
Once again, I am honored and humbled to personally thank you all for the tremendous work you continue to do on behalf of our students and community.

Dr. Gallon continues to be actively engaged in his role as a policy maker, as he successfully proposed School Board agenda items for the July & September 2023 Board Meeting that received unanimous approval and support from the Board.
Dr. Gallon's items addressed/recognized the following:

Recognizing Ruban Roberts

|
At the School Board Meeting of July 19, 2023, Dr. Gallon was proud to honor Mr. Ruban Roberts for his work in addressing mental health of the youth and families.
He gave a huge congratulations to Mr. Roberts and the many partners that came in support of his service and dedication and the critical important work they do on behalf of their students and community.

Unity in the Community: A Fight Against Gun Violence
|
|
On July 29, 2023, Dr. Gallon was proud to stand in support and solidarity with Nationwide Theo and Katrina Baskin as well as members of the community against senseless gun violence, and to share a few words.
|
|
Dr. Gallon had a powerful evening of debate and discourse regarding African American History curriculum in Florida and issues impacting education in schools throughout the state.
"We must transcend emotion and commit to action when it comes to the learning and lives of our students," said Dr. Gallon.

13th Annual Back to School Supply Distribution
|
|
Dr. Gallon had a great start of the morning for the 2023-2024 school year. As a former classroom teacher and principal, he doesn't visit schools on the first day of school. He knows it can be a very busy time at the school and supports the school site getting off to a great, uninterrupted start.
However, on August 17, 2023, he agreed to join Miami Gardens Mayor Rodney Harris along with members of the League of Cities for a book-bag and supply giveaway at Crestview Elementary School.

It was a great start of the morning for Dr. Gallon at WMBM studios with Bishop Victor T. Curry, Debra J Toomer and the WMBM family discussing education and related issues affecting the community, state, and nation on August 22, 2023.

Boys & Girls Club Hall of Fame Interview
|
|
Dr. Gallon was humbled and honored to be interviewed regarding his induction into the Boys and Girls Hall of Fame.
It was great for him to speak about his experiences growing up as a member of Northwest Boys Club and the contributions the Boys and Girls Club makes to the development, education, and uplift of children and youth.

Orange Blossom Classic Kick-off
|
|
It was great energy and fellowship at the Orange Blossom Classic Kick-Off Reception and Luncheon held on September 1, 2023.
Also, Dr. Gallon was humbled and honored to receive the Community Stalwart Award from the Orange Blossom Classic Committee for his leadership and service in Education and Politics.
He gave thanks to the OBC and congratuled the other honorees.

Carol City Elementary Book Vending Machine Unveiling
|
|
Dr. Gallon was grateful to community partners OshKosh B Gosh/Carters for their donation of a vending machine to Carol City Elementary School that dispenses books to students as an incentive for achievement in academics, attendance, actions, and/or attitudes.
Dr. Gallon is always proud to be a part of the work if it nourishes the minds of the students.

District 1 Principal & Partners Partnership Breakfast
|
|
On September 12, 2023, Dr. Gallon held his District 1 Principal and Pastors Partnership Breakfast.
Since 2016, District 1 has been advancing and supporting partnerships between District 1 schools and the faith-based community. They believe and know that effective educational partnerships improve student learning and school success.
Dr. Gallon gave a special thanks to AACCC President Gregory Thompson for hosting and sponsoring this special event.

September 19, 2023, was a great day promoting partnerships and supporting education with Miami Gardens Councilman Reggie Leon as they joined "The Boss" Rick Ross at Norland Senior High and Carol City Senior High.
These two events were to provide donations to support students in the marching bands with each school receiving $4,000.00 donations from Councilman Leon to support their travel and participation during marching band season.
Then, Rick Ross gifted all students with a pair of his newly released designer jeans and a message on the importance of giving back.

Outstanding Teacher by the Orange Bowl Committee
|
|
Dr. Gallon was proud to congratulate Ms. Mitchell of Norland Middle School for being selected and honored as an Outstanding Teacher by the Orange Bowl Committee. She was surprised when she entered her classroom and celebrated by her students, principal, and members of the media and community.
Ms. Mitchell was presented with a $1,000.00 to purchase supplies to support her students.
Dr. Gallon gave a huge congratulations to Ms. Mitchell and the entire Norland Middle School family and thanked the Orange Bowl Committee for the partnership in education.

Student of the Month Recognition Ceremony at Lake Stevens Middle

It is always a great time with parents, educators, and community members celebrating the achievements and successes of our students at the District 1 Student of the Month Recognition Ceremony.
Dr. Gallon congratulated all of the honorees for a great start to the 2023-2024 school year.

District 1 Town Hall Meeting at
Miami Norland Sr. High

|
On the evening of September 26, 2023, Dr. Gallon had a great time with parents, students, teachers, administrators, principals, staff, and community members at the District 1 Town Hall Meeting.
It was a great opportunity to review and reaffirm their collective commitment to student learning and efforts to improve our district, schools, and community.
Dr. Gallon was grateful for everyone who came out.
