Greetings:
I hope that this edition of Gallon's Good News finds each of you in the excitement, hope, and promise of the 2022-2023 school year. As we have successfully welcomed back our students, I trust we have done so with an unabated commitment and passion to help them realize and achieve even higher levels of learning and life-long success.
As members of the Miami-Dade County Public Schools family, we must commit to remain focused on that which unites and brings us all together, and helps to define our core mission and purpose---the education and uplift our students.
As you continue to do this work, I encourage that you will do so with a spirit of dedication, integrity, and resiliency in your personal and professional endeavors.

Dr. Gallon continues to be actively engaged in his role as a policy maker as he successfully proffered a School Board agenda item that received approval and support from the Board at the June 2022 School Board Meeting.

DASA Principal & Assistant Principal of the Year Awards
|
|
On the evening of May 5, 2022, Dr. Gallon gave huge congratulations to Mr. Jackson Nicholas for being selected as M-DCPS Principal of the Year and Mr. Jean Claude Saint Phard for being selected as Assistant Principal of the Year.
He also saluted all of the honorees and faculty and staff of their respective schools for supporting such outstanding leaders.

District 1 "Meet & Greet"
Welcoming Superintendent Dr. Dotres

|
Dr. Gallon and the District 1 community had an amazing evening at the District 1 “Meet and Greet” welcoming Superintendent Dr. Jose Dotres.
Dr. Gallon was grateful for all of the community leaders, stakeholders, educators, students, and parents that came out to stand in support of the collective efforts toward the continued improvement of the learning and lives of their students.

S.O.U.L. Program at Scott Lake Elementary School
|
|
Dr. Gallon was proud to salute and present a School Board Proclamation to the Oklahoma University Football Team. They traveled to South Florida to invest their time, talent, and treasure to supporting Scott Lake Elementary School.
He also gave kudos to their coaching staff and leaders of the S.O.U.L. program for ensuring student athletes experience service, civic duty, and prepare for life after football.

Recognizing the 2022 Wilson Scholars
|
|
At the May 18, 2022 School Board Meeting, Dr. Gallon honored and congratulated the 2022 Wilson Scholars of the 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project.

|
Jennifer Beth Turken End of the Year Ceremony at Fulford Elementary
|
|
Dr. Gallon had a great start of the morning celebrating and awarding kindness with the Jennifer Beth Turken Family and Foundation at Fulford Elementary School on May 19, 2022. He continues to be grateful for their partnership with the schools and investment in the children as they keep alive the legacy of the late Jennifer Beth Turken, a former North Beach Elementary School student, who passed away in 1996 at the tender age of 8.
The Turken Family recognizes and rewards students for random acts of kindness. Winners receive bicycles and related equipment.
Dr. Gallon was also inspired by Lala who he saw sitting in the audience with her classmates—-dancing and smiling and applauding the winners—so inspired that he rewarded ALL of the students that were in attendance.

District 1 Student of the Year Recognition Ceremony
|
|
On May 24, 2022, Dr. Gallon hosted the 2022 District 1 Student of the Year Awards Luncheon at St. Thomas University. District 1 celebrated and awarded one student from each school as the 2022 Student of the Year who have demonstrated exceptional achievement in the areas of academics, attendance, attitudes, and actions that reflect positively upon their school, community, and families.
He gave special thanks to Pastor Art Jackson, Mayor Rodney Harris, Councilwoman Shannon Campbell, St. Thomas University, the Miami Dolphins, Jason Jenkins, and the countless partners that supported this endeavor.

"Real Talk" with Dr. Gallon Episode 4
|
|
Dr. Gallon wrapped up another successful episode of "Real Talk" with Dr. Steve Gallon III on May 25, 2022.
On the fourth episode, he discussed high school athletics with two of the most experienced in the game—veteran Athletic Director Renee Green-Mccleod and the County’s longest serving Head Coach—Jeff Bertani of North Miami Beach Senior High.
There was real talk around the FHSAA, reclassification, student transfers, and the economic engine of high school sports, to name a few.

Meeting with the National Black Women in Construction
|
|
Dr. Gallon had a great meeting with members of the National Black Women in Construction to discuss ways to support and improve diversity and inclusive practices in the District’s Construction and Facilities Program.
|
|
FSBA/FADSS Annual Summer Conference
|
|
While in attendance at the FSBA/FADSS Annual Summer Conference in Tampa, Florida, Dr. Gallon was surprised, yet honored and humbled to be presented with the Florida School Boards Association 2022 President’s Award for Unparalleled Leadership at the State and National levels during politically difficult and tumultuous times in the midst of the pandemic.
He was honored for strength and for personally sacrificing a national platform for the greater, common good of his colleagues across Florida and throughout the nation.

School Board Workshop and School Board Committee Meeting
|
|
At the June 15, 2022 School Board Budget Workshop and Committee Meeting, Dr. Gallon was actively engaged and ready to present a School Board Agenda Item to ensure and promote enhanced accountability and transparency in the expenditure of federal stimulus funds.
|
|
36th Annual Conference of the 100 Black Men of America
|
|
On June 17, 2022, Dr. Gallon had the honor of serving on a panel regarding eradicating violence in schools and communities at the 36th Annual Conference of the 100 Black Men of America.
|
|
A-Rated School District Press Conference
|
|
On July 7, 2022, Dr. Gallon spoke at the M-DCPS press conference in regard to being an A-rated district.
“Despite the obstacles, challenges, impediment that this community, state, and quite frankly, the nation has faced…We have risen...," stated Dr. Gallon.

Project REDI/FEA Initiative-Growing Our Own
|
|
Dr. Gallon had a great morning celebrating, recognizing, and inspiring future educators at the Project REDI/FEA Initiative-Growing Our Own.
This initiative is designed to inspire males to go into education as teachers and currently starts at the high school level.
He gave huge congratulations to Erick, Tyler, Khalil, Jalen, and Tyler for successfully completing the program.
Dr. Gallon was also honored to give words of reflection on his career as an educator and the nobility and value of education as a profession. He gave each student each of his two books which were signed.
The program also awarded each student $2,000.00 for program participation and completion.

On July 24, 2022, Dr. Gallon appeared on CNN's New Day to discuss Health and Reproduction Education and Textbook Materials in Miami-Dade County Public Schools.
