Dear Miriam Community,

I am writing to let you know that Dr. Sue Jackson will leave Miriam Academy at the end of this academic year.

As the inaugural Head of the Academy, Dr. Jackson has built from scratch a rich program, an excellent faculty and administrative team, and a positive school culture. She has led this remarkable school from 12 ninth-graders in a temporary location in a church basement to more than 60 students in the school’s new, permanent home. In five momentous years, Miriam Academy has graduated its first class, achieved accreditation, inspired a successful capital campaign to purchase and renovate its campus, and, most importantly, provided St. Louis families with much needed access to a high school designed for students who learn differently. None of this would have been possible without Dr. Jackson’s indefatigable positive energy, determination and experience, and for this the Miriam community past and present will be forever grateful.

Because Dr. Jackson will remain Head of School until the end of the academic year, please rest assured that all will continue as usual for our students. We will begin a search immediately for our next Head of School. I will write again very soon with more details about this process and the opportunities that all school constituencies will have to contribute to it. This semester and moving forward, the Academy is in excellent hands, thanks to the hard work of Dr. Jackson and our spectacular teachers, counselors and support staff. I hope that you take time in the next few days to thank Dr. Jackson and wish her well.

Sincerely,

Bill Florent
