Spots. Who has time for this common sign of aging! Throughout the years, small discolorations on the skin have been referred to as liver spots, age spots, and more. By any name, they are a cosmetic problem we could do without. They also have very little to do with age, at all, except that they give the perception of it.
Age spots are sun spots. They are a sign that the sun has touched our skin too many times. Every time we expose ourselves to UV light (even tanning beds), the cells beneath the surface react. Melanocytes, which produce the color we call a tan, don’t like this UV exposure. That is why they produce pigment. The melanin that comes to the surface is meant to protect the skin from more browning. This is why we have heard of the average tan being nothing more than a sign of sun damage.
You don’t have to have lived your life under the Florida sunshine to be affected by too much UV light. If years of exposure have led to discoloration on your face, hands, arms, chest, or another area, we can help by customizing a treatment plan around your needs and preferences. This may involve:
IPL PHOTO REJUVENATION | BBL FOREVER YOUNG
The
Lumenis® One™ IPL
and
Sciton® BBL Forever Young™
platforms, that we use has been developed specifically for “sun worshippers” who are now suffering from visible signs of sun damage.
IPL treatments
target the pigment on the epidermis with pulses of light at specific wavelengths. Absorbed into the skin, these wavelengths disrupt melanin accumulation, causing spots to fade away. These unique revolutionary treatments not only corrects photo aged skin (SPOTS), but also benefits younger patients who simply want to maintain their healthy, youthful skin.
CHEMICAL PEELS
Chemical peels are beneficial for individuals who have already begun to see the evidence of UV damage, and even for those whose damage is still lurking beneath the surface. A chemical peel is designed around individual needs and can address multiple concerns simultaneously, which is one reason for the popularity of this treatment. The way that a peel works is by inciting light to deep exfoliation through a mild chemical solution. The application does not take long, and results include younger-looking, more radiant skin.
LASER RESURFACING
Like chemical peels, laser skin resurfacing also improves several aspects of the skin at once. Our Sciton® Erbium laser is adjustable to gently remove a very thin layer of epidermal tissue or a thicker layer for more dramatic results. Laser treatments are an excellent solution for more severe sun damage.
Remember you can help prevent these spots at home too by using good sun protection practices, like wearing sunscreen daily, a wide brim hat, sunglasses and sun protective clothing. To learn more about what you can do to protect yourself from sun spots see my blog on “
