We're entering a season of thanksgiving, and I am grateful to all of you who took the time to vote in the 2022 Naples' Best of the Best contest presented by the Naples Daily News. The ZCO prevailed again as the winner of this official Community Choice Award. It was a "you say tomato, I say tomahtoe" kind of thing as the name of the category changed from "Best Orthopedist" to "Best Orthopaedic Center." Either way, we won! Thank you!
If you know someone who could use this info, please forward this newsletter or recommend to them our newsletter archive.
Best regards,
Robert J. Zehr, M.D.

Dr. Zehr repeats as "Naples' Best Orthopedist"
|
|
Dr. Zehr has again been voted the top orthopedist in Naples, Florida, in the Naples Daily News’ annual “Best of the Best” Official Community Choice Awards. Dr. Zehr won the inaugural award in 2021.
“This is a real honor, and I appreciate the time and effort that my patients and other members of the community went to, to select me for this award. From the time we were notified of our anonymous nomination, until the final vote was cast, we enjoyed a tremendous outpouring of support from many avenues,” said Dr. Zehr. “We will proudly display both official winner logos in all of our advertising and communications for the next 365 days!”

Dr. Zehr introduces app for surgery patients
|
|
We are the first Naples orthopaedic practice to introduce the use of an interactive app, to assist ZCO patients prepare for joint replacement surgery. The mymobility app from Zimmer Biomet is a digital interactive care plan that allows patients to connect with the ZCO care team through their compatible iPhone, Apple Watch, or Android smart phone. The app prompts patients to complete tasks assigned by Dr. Zehr as part of their prescribed care plan and allows the interactions needed to take an active role in optimizing their results and recovery. Users can message the ZCO’s physician assistant (PA) directly. The encrypted messaging feature allows patients to ask questions regarding their health, activity, care plan prognosis, and surgeon’s directions. Patients can also share photos, such as a snapshot of their surgical incision site for an assessment of their healing.
The customized care plans start pre-operatively and include both pre-operative and post-operative exercises, education, and questionnaires. The app sends reminders to the patient’s smart phone or Apple Watch to complete the assigned activities and chronicle their progress through the submission of surveys. Data is recorded on the patient’s dashboard and forwarded to the clinician dashboard, allowing Dr. Zehr and his PA to review the patient’s progress throughout the surgical journey.
“I have always held that the best-prepared patient is a well-educated one, a patient who takes an active role in their own health care. Historically, these are the patients who experience the most satisfactory outcomes from their surgical experience. We are excited to be able to offer this service to enhance their preparation for joint replacement surgery and their post-operative care,” said Dr. Zehr. “This is not a one-size-fits-all program, but a customized care plan. There may be some instances where using the app will not be appropriate or advantageous to the patient. We will assess every patient and offer it to those who can benefit from it.”
“This is our fifteenth year in business as a solo practice and the changes in and out of the operating room are myriad. Technology has ushered in so many improvements…” Zehr muses. “We adopt as many of those as we can to remain one of Naples’ leading orthopaedic practices.”

ZCO Staff heads to summer school!
|
|
The ZCO staff headed to Dallas recently, to take part in a User Conference offered by CompuGroup Medical (CGM), providers of the electronic medical records software the office has been using for the past 15 years.
Practice Manager Joanne Gilbert explained, "We go to the conference to get updated with all the new things that they are adding to our software and to go to classes on helpful areas of the software like billing, forms, tips and tricks, best practices, reporting, and, most importantly, clinical changes that will be released in January 2023."
In between sessions, the ladies paid a visit to the photo booth. Left to right, front to back, are Karla Lengacher, RN; Amanda Weaver, PA-C; Michelle Maldonado; and Joanne Gilbert.

Patients return to the best!
|
|
"Nine years ago (2000), I needed my right hip replaced. After careful research, I selected Dr. Robert Zehr. His state-of-the-art anterior surgical process was important, but so was the obvious care provided by Dr. Zehr and his staff, both medical professionals and office support staff. Everything was easy, clearly explained, and professionally handled. My experience was so positive, that this past September (2019), when my left hip failed, I returned to have Dr. Zehr, and his staff perform the surgery. Again, nothing but professionalism and outstanding medical care. I cannot say enough!"
-Richard M.
"I just finished rehabilitation for my second hip surgery by Dr. Zehr, and it was every bit as successful as the first hip surgery he performed for me two years ago (2017). This surgeon is truly outstanding. A consummate professional, Dr. Zehr and his staff are caring, sensitive, and extremely well organized. I recommend him without any reservation."
