The Truth of the Genesis Flood
On Wednesday March 6th GHCA is sponsoring geologist Dr. Tim Clarey to make two presentations on Bonus Night of Houston's First Baptist Church's annual MidLink series.
Dr. Clarey is an oil geologist
who retired to research the geology of the Genesis Flood for the Institute for Creation Research in Dallas. Each time an oil well is drilled the type, thickness and character of each rock layer the well goes through is measured and logged in great
detail. That log data is a vast store of information on the nature of the rock layers and how they change over the face of the Earth. Dr. Clarey is assembling that data into geological maps with much greater detail over much greater intercontinental areas than ever before. Dr. Clarey is
using these maps to understand just how the worldwide catastrophic Genesis Flood happened based on real measured physical data.
These maps enable us to understand more about how the Genesis Flood
ripped up preflood material in one area and laid it down again in distant places. Often these new deposits span entire continents and beyond. The Flood was a truly world scale process.
Geologist have long looked for one or two layers that were very different from the others which would correspond a world scale flood. Of course they have not found a layer or small group of layers that are like that. They should have been thinking much larger! A world scale flood would lay down most of the rock layers exposed at the Grand Canyon and likely much more seen at higher elevations.
More recent geologists divide the rock layers we see today into massive groups called megasequences that have long been recognize to span whole continents. Six megasequences
are recognized to span large parts of the North American continent including the Sauk, Tippecanoe, Kaskaskia, Absaroka, Zuni and Tejas megasequence at the top. See Clarey's Sea Level Curve short article here.
The first megasequence laid down, the Sauk megasequence, includes the first few horizontal layers at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. Below the Sauk megasequence the rock layers were broken into vast block and tilted at a steep angle and in many places those layers were swept away altogether. Apparently before the Sauk layers were laid down, a cataclysmic event broke up and tilted over those lower rock layers and then sheared them off in a horizontal plane where the Sauk sequence was soon to be laid down. That cataclysmic event was likely the beginning of the Genesis Flood. As the Flood progressed, massive tectonic movements and massive surges of
seawater ripped up parts of the preflood environment and redeposited that material in the megasequence groups of layers we now see.
That sheared off boundary below the Sauk is known as the Great Unconformity and it is found many places around the world. There has long been a mystery about what mechanism could possibly cause the Great Unconformity. It would have to be an Earth shaking event.
In between each of the megasequences the water partially retreated, moved and redeposited some of the material that was previously deposited.
Dr. Clarey
and his data from oil wells all over the world is showing that all of this is not just the Grand Canyon area, and not just the North American continent, but in fact much of it extends through Europe,
the near East, Africa, and South America. The Flood was truly worldwide. That is what the hard data in the rock layer maps is making much more clear and certain. Dr. Clarey has become the world's leading expert on the data mapping the megasequence rock layers. Come see what he has to show. Examples of Important YEC Scientific Evidences
Some major examples of physical evidence we point to include:
- Remains of original soft tissue still found in dinosaur bones. Along with that tissue is C-14 that would decay completely away in less than a hundred thousand years, a tiny fraction of the dinosaur fossil's supposed age.
- For many years geologists have found C-14 in fossil carbon throughout the fossil record. So, the entire fossil record is less than 100,000 years old.
- The origin of the information and molecular machinery in the first living self-reproducing cell remains a complete enigma for biologist and biochemists.
- In the origin of the universe, big bang theory is being recognized as a dead end by increasing numbers of secular scientists. The hypothesized inflation has nothing to start it, drive it forward, or stop it. Without inflation fatal flaws appear with the absence of predicted antimatter, magnetic monopoles, or any means for the whole universe to come to the same precise background temperature. Then the formation of the first stars is as enigmatic as the origin of the first biological cell. Dark matter and dark energy are as enigmatic as the galactic motions they are needed to explain.
At the root of all standard science are many assumptions that may be quite incorrect. At the top is that there is no God. Another is that present process can be used to explain everything in the past. When we look at a canyon we are taught to assume the river at the bottom cut the canyon. But perhaps tectonic events made the canyon and there is a river at the bottom because water always flows downhill. At the root of big bang theory is a pure assumption that has been named the "Cosmological Principle". Perhaps inaccuracies there are responsible for the big bang's multitude of problems.
