Engineering, Enchantment & Exploration: Cubs Take on STEM!

On Sunday, December 7, Metro Packs 2131, 738, and 130 teamed up for a STEM Nova adventure! Scott Carrano and his trusty family assistants guided the Cubs through the STEM Nova Swing! award, exploring pulleys, levers, and the basics of engineering.

The Lions and Tigers weren’t left out—they tackled Gizmos and Gadgets to explore motion and force, and picked up a few tricks up their sleeves in Curiosity, Intrigue, and Magical Mysteries. The day ended with a marshmallow catapult battle and a magical show that had everyone cheering.

Two Cubs are now qualified to launch their STEM Super Nova projects, while the youngest Cubs from Pack 738 were able to use their newfound magic skills for their own Pack’s holiday meeting presentations. Science, fun, and a little enchantment—Cubs took it all on and conquered it!

Cub Scouting offers a whole new world to young people, including these amazing STEM activities! Way to go, Cub Scouts!

Make an Impact Before the Year Ends

Your generosity at year’s end helps shape what Scouting can accomplish in the year ahead. A gift to Greater LA Scouting keeps Scouting affordable, supports camperships for families who need assistance, and strengthens local units so every Scout has the opportunity to learn, grow, and lead.

Your investment also supports the volunteers who bring Scouting to life and ensures our camp properties remain safe, welcoming, and ready for adventure. This work is especially important as we prepare to reopen Camp Cherry Valley and look ahead to another summer at Hubert Eaton Scout Reservation, continuing to invest in the places where Scouts build confidence, character, and lifelong skills.

Your gift today can help

  • $26 supports essential supplies for training and programs
  • $100 provides hands-on program materials so Scouts can learn outdoor skills
  • $250 strengthens volunteer development across our units
  • $750 helps maintain safe, high-quality camp properties for all youth
