Dear St. George Families,

Recently I read an article in "At Home With Your Family" that talked about making a preferential option for your family. What does this mean? It means that every decision made is arrived at with the welfare of the family in mind.

What kind of people do we want our children to become? Do our actions as a family and parents reflect on the attitudes we want our children to have when they become adults? What priority do we really place on their spiritual/moral development?

In an older issue of "Parade" magazine, Dr. Joyce Brothers gave her list of "ten principles that strong families live by;"
  1. Family comes first! Strong families support one another.
  2. We belong together - and apart. We give our kids unconditional love.
  3. We are a democracy. Parents are the leaders; children play a role in decisions.
  4. We treat each other well. We build each other up and critize softly.
  5. We roll with the punches. Don't sweat the small stuff; choose your battles.
  6. We pay attention. Don't read minds; listen with your heart.
  7. We cherish family time. Don't just hope for it , do it!
  8. We branch out. Value your extended family, especially grandparents.
  9. We want to improve the world. Volunteer and get involved.
  10. We have faith. There is a strong spiritual dimension; life has a purpose and goal - eternal life with God.
This past week we celebrated Catholic Schools Week and focused on the unique characteristics of Catholic education: spirituality, community and personal growth. These are all included in the ten principles listed above. A strong school and parish community reflect strong values in the home.

Examine the real priorities in your family. Are they the priorities needed to create a strong Catholic family? Are they the priorities that your children need to grow up to become the leaders of our Church, community, and nation? Are we teaching them that they can make a difference?

Thank you for making Catholic Schools Week a great success. I am very proud of our SGS "family." You are an important part of our "family" and all you do to support our children, school and parish is greatly appreciated.

God Bless,
Jack Nelson

ST. GEORGE ACCREDITATION PARENT SURVEY
St. George School and all schools in the Diocese are accredited through Advanced ED. Every five years we go through the Accreditation process. It is time to do so again. Part of the process is to gather information from our shareholders.

We are asking all parents to complete the parent survey. Your input is important and will help is on our journey of continuous improvement. The survey may be accessed HERE.  Please complete the survey prior to February 20th.

As an extra incentive, all students who have at least one parent complete the survey will earn an Out-Of-Uniform day on Thursday, February 20th. This will be monitored on the honor system.
