Dear Parents,
Have you ever invited 1,074 people under the age of 13 to dinner? Sounds a bit overwhelming, but that is what happens in our cafeterias every day. It takes a lot of planning, procedures, and cooperation from teachers and students to make it work, but our preparations paid off and the cafeterias ran smoothly both yesterday and today.
The cafeteria is just one of the many parts of our school day that require clear procedures to make it run efficiently and safely. For the last two days, teachers and students have been practicing procedures for carpool, assembly, recess, (see the picture of middle school transitioning from lunch to recess), copying assignments, and the list goes on. It is an important time of the year as we all learn the new routines and procedures.
Another important part of the start of the school year is for teachers to get to know their students and students to get to know their teachers. During Staff in-service this year we spent time discussing the importance of “knowing” your students. I saw teachers put this into action today by taking walks with their class, playing name games with their class, and doing activities that encourage the students to get to know each other.
The first days of school are such an exciting time, and I want to thank our teachers, staff, students, and parents for making this a great start to the 24-25 school year.
