Did you know that:

• AED stands for automatic external defibrillator.
• Once an AED is located and opened, it gives step by step directions for how to use it.
• St. George has two AEDs on its campus, one in the gym and one in the church.
• In addition to having a full-time nurse on campus during school hours, many of our staff members are trained in CPR and on using an AED.
• The first preventative measure to avoid needing an AED is to schedule routine visits with your doctor for you and your children.
• AEDs cost around $2,000.00. We have assessed our campus and would like to purchase 1-3 more AEDs. 
• If you would like to support us, please raise your paddle at the auction or make a direct donation to SGS.

Enrollment for the 2023-24 school year

Friday, January 27 - Friday, February 3

Information regarding enrollment of current students will be communicated in an email to parents on Friday, January 27th.

Enrollment Timeline:

• January 27, 2023 – February 3, 2023: Enrollment for current and new students must be completed online and submitted with the non-refundable $120.00 enrollment fee. 

• Late enrollment begins after midnight on February 4, 2023 and ends at 11:59 pm on February 10, 2023. Late enrollment for current students must be completed online and submitted with the non-refundable $175.00 late enrollment fee. 



• Any current student that has not been enrolled by 11:59 pm, on February 10, 2023, will be withdrawn for the 2023-2024 school year.

St. George School joins our Diocese of Baton Rouge and the nation as we celebrate Catholic Schools week, January 29 - February 3, 2023.

For 49 years, Catholic Schools Week has been celebrated from the last Sunday in January through the following Saturday to highlight the value of Catholic schools. 

A few reasons we celebrate Catholic Schools are:

• Catholic schools continually outperform public and other private schools on national assessment tests, such as the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP).
• Catholic high schools have a 99 percent graduation rate compared to 86 percent of public schools.
• Catholic schools’ service programs expose students to different communities of need and service to others, raises their social awareness and helps to build a better society.
• Catholic schools are near the top in national testing in learning outcomes for students receiving free and reduced-price lunch.
• Catholic school attendance boosts the likelihood that a minority student will graduate from high school from 62 percent to 88 percent.
• Catholic schools contribute to the common good through financial savings to state and local communities. Based on the average public school per-pupil cost, Catholic schools save the American taxpayers more than $22.7 billion a year by not educating those students in public schools.

January Stewardship Project

Catholic Charities - Linens

Please Donate by Tuesday, January 31

Our January stewardship project, in coordination with the catholic schools in our diocese, is to collect new linens for Catholic Charities.

Each year during the Catholic Schools Weeks Liturgy, the donated supplies are presented to Catholic Charities.

Examples of linen items needed are: linens, gift cards, all size sheets & blankets, pillows, towel sets, shower curtains and rings, rugs, etc. Thank you for your generosity and support.

Duties include greeting students at carpool, leading morning and afternoon announcements, attending meetings, implementing special "Principal for the Day" rules, and enjoying a special lunch with administration. Boys Basketball:

Our 2023 Varsity Boys Basketball Tournament was a huge success this past weekend!

Thank you to all the faculty and staff, parents and students who came out to support the boys all weekend- the gym was packed every time our teams were playing! 

Congratulations to all 3 of our teams for making it to the finals! 7th grade was able to take home the championship! 6th and 8th fought hard but fell just a little short in two very competitive games placing 2nd! Great job by all the boys!

Thank you to everyone who helped work concessions and gate shifts, cooked burgers, worked the clock and anything else that needed to be done to make this the best basketball tournament possible! It truly takes a village, and our St. George village is by far the best around!

Next weekend 1/26-1/29 is our JV team's turn to play in their St. George JV Tournament so be on the lookout for that schedule and make plans to come cheer on those teams!!

Girls Flag Football:

Monday, 1/23 is the last day of girls’ flag football. Please have your daughter wear her green flag football t-shirt that was given to her, if she does not have one yet contact Ashley Bourgeois. We hope all the girls can make this final day!

TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK

February 13 - 17, 2023

Students who wish to participate may show appreciation for their teachers in the following ways. This is voluntary and not mandatory. 

• Monday - Give your teacher a quarter (the Coke machine in the lounge is 50 cents)
• Tuesday - Special Teacher’s Day: bring a small surprise to the art, computer, Spanish, guidance, music, library, PE or religion teacher that your child has that day
• Wednesday - Give your teacher a favorite snack or fruit
• Thursday - Give your teacher a recipe, note, card, and/or prayer
• Friday - Give your teacher a school supply

*Teachers’ “favorites” were provided from the room moms at the beginning of the school year*

The Home and School Special Events Committee is accepting donations to be given out during the sit-down luncheon on Thursday, February 16. If you would like to donate an item or make a cash donation (nothing is too big or too small), please send items to the office with your name on it by Friday, February 10th.
