Do You Know Jesus?
There’s no need to worry! This is not a test.
Last Friday, our kindergarten dragons attended school Mass for the first time this school year. As I was walking to church, I witnessed a kindergarten teacher stop her class and remind them to prepare their “prayer hands” and turn off their voices because they were getting ready to visit Jesus. From the back of the line, a student raised his hand and exclaimed, “I already know Jesus!” How profound is this statement from a precious five year old child?
One of the greatest blessings of working in Catholic schools is having the opportunity to “see” Jesus every single day in our students, faculty, and staff. I see Jesus in siblings at carpool who hug each other before going their separate ways, in our teacher’s assistants who apply bandaides to the smallest of scrapes, in our guidance counselors who give an extra hug to those who aren’t quite ready to start their school day, in our cross country team members who help a teammate cross the finish line, in our teachers who attend extra-curricular activities so that they can not only cheer for their students in the classroom, but also outside of the classroom, and in our entire school community during Mass on Fridays (the sound of children’s voices singing loud and proud is so beautiful). St. George has excellent academic and extracurricular programs, but our foundation is our Catholic faith – we want to make sure that our students know Jesus.
In his book, Holy Moments, Matthew Kelly reminds us that, “Holy Moments are one of the most powerful forces on earth. One seemingly insignificant Holy Moment can produce a tidal wave of goodness.” I encourage each of you to find your own “Holy Moments”. Recognizing Jesus and the goodness in others will have a significant impact on your day!
