A Note from Jeff

WELCOME!

It’s 2020 - you made it! That is certainly reason enough to bid you “welcome,” but you know me - there is always more to it.

This Sunday is an incredible double-header. Not only is it Baptism Sunday, but it is also the time for our youth-led service (and we are leading both the 9 and 11:15 this year). This is an excellent juxtaposition, in my mind. This Sunday we get to see our newest members welcomed into our community by some of our youngest members.

What is especially wonderful about this to me is our youth are going to be the ones who will be their Children’s Chapel and Godly Play instructors. They will be their babysitters, and Vacation Bible School counselors. The youth of today will always be the older, ‘cool’ kids these newly baptized will look up to and emulate. This Sunday, these same youth get to extend a special welcome to those who will follow them. What a wonderful example of how community – of how family – works.

It has been fascinating to discover how passionately conservative our youth are when it comes to leading a sacramental service. Don’t look for a wholesale re-imagining of Baptism; our youth have great respect for our traditions and liturgy. But pay attention. This is their service of welcome. Our youth participate every single week in our services. They do that because it is important to them as part of our community. But this Sunday, they get to do more than merely demonstrate their love for this family of ours. They will get a chance to tell you, in no uncertain terms, how they feel about the Episcopal Church, St. Margaret’s, and you! Now that you know that, how can you miss it?

Grants Liaisons Needed
This year’s Grants Committee is already hard at work. The 11 members are reviewing 38 grants from as far away as Africa and South America and as close as the Broadneck Peninsula. Twenty of the applicants are first-time appliers. After review of the applications, the committee will narrow the pool to a dozen or so finalists. These potential applicants will be visited (or Skyped) by grant liaisons, working in pairs during February. Would you like to be a Grants Liaison?
