A Note from Patti

Wow, this year is flying by already! We celebrated Candlemas (the end of Christmas and Epiphanytide) only 10 days ago. And now, Ash Wednesday is just two weeks away. So let’s get ready. Here are some upcoming events to mark on your calendar:

Feb. 16th – Volunteer for worship - Come one, come all and stay for a short while after the 9:00 service and learn about being a chalice bearer, or a lector or an usher, OR, an acolyte (the really fun one)! We will meet in groups in the sanctuary. This is a wonderful opportunity to stretch yourself and deepen your relationship with God and your St. Margaret’s family.

Feb. 23 -Episcopal Advocacy Forum -- Our parishioners who attended today's Episcopal Advocacy Day at the State House will provide information they learned about pending legislation on a variety of subjects for which the diocese is working with government leaders. The forum will be in the Fellowship Hall and will begin around 10:20 a.m.

Feb. 24th – Faith and Fellowship Monday night (Reminder -- No Faith & Fellowship this Monday, Feb. 17.) We are hoping to have a speaker from the Anne Arundel Crisis Response Team to speak with us. Speaker to be announced as soon as plans have been confirmed. This will be informative for all families, as we have all been impacted by crisis, if not directly, then indirectly. Come and learn about some immediate interventions we can be prepared to access.

Feb. 25th – Fat Tuesday Pancake Supper in the Parish Hall from 4:30 'til 7:00 pm. Many thanks to the Brotherhood of St. Andrew for hosting this again. (Men, you should talk to the brothers about joining this ministry. Get involved!) Tickets will be on sale on Sundays and at the door. At 7:00 pm, join Peter and me at the columbarium to burn the sacred palms from last year. It will be a meaningful start to our Lenten season.

Feb. 26th – Ash Wednesday. Services will be at 7:30 am in the Fellowship Hall, and at noon and 7 pm in the sanctuary. (A 9:00 am service will be held for the day school families in the Fellowship Hall.)

Then we’re in Lent. Blessings on your Lenten journey into a deeper relationship into the heart of the mystery of Christ. Our Monday night adult study in March , after our Faith and Fellowship dinner, is called “Signs of Life – Why Church Matters.” Each week we’ll explore a different element of life – Light, Water, Food, Shelter, and Community – and discover “Why Church Matters” Monday nights after our family dinner at 6:20, in the Fellowship Hall. Begins around 7:00 p.m. No book purchasing required!

And looking waaaay ahead… Vacation Bible School is June 22 – 26th this year. Please join in. Registration begins after Easter. Be part of the family! Looking forward to seeing many new faces at these events!

Thanks go to all who are helping out with winter relief efforts this week. We have almost all slots filled. If you haven't signed up already, you can do so by clicking on this link.

Finally, congratulations to our own Ella Tomko , already a youth leader on our vestry, who will be heading up Happenings #14, a diocesan youth event next winter. She and other SMC youth Greta Lunsford-Poe, Caroline Heller, Austin Canuel, and Jane Ford participated in the #13 event this past weekend.
Chamber Music Concert
music notes
Our friends of the Annapolis Chamber Music Festival return to St. Margaret's for a Saturday afternoon concert on February 22 at 4 p.m . Come see amazing musicians Ray Furuta and Laura Ward in a century-spanning program of works for flute & piano. Tickets are $25 online or $30 at the door. A portion of the ticket sales will go towards the St Margaret’s music ministry’s educational and formational efforts.
Confirmation Date Set
The date for confirmation in 2020 has been set – it will be April 19 at 4 p.m. at St. John’s in Ellicott City. If your child is ready to make this mature, informed decision, please contact Jeff Conover, our Youth Ministries Leader at [email protected] . As a reminder, EVERYTHING in Youth Group pertains to a child's own progress on their faith journey. Everyone in the group, regardless of age or grade in school, should be familiar with what we as Christians believe and how we as Episcopalians put those beliefs into action. That is why youth study the Nicene and the Apostle’s Creeds. It is why they spend time on youth-led service. When the Holy Spirit finds them, they’ll be ready!
Lenten Luncheon
Join members of St. Margaret's Guild for their annual Lenten soup and salad luncheon on Wednesday, March 4 in the Parish Hall. The Rev. Peter W. Mayer will lead a morning prayer service there at 11:30 a.m. with the lunch following. All are welcome.
Day School Auction Coming
St. Margaret's parent volunteers are busily working on the planning of their annual major fundraiser - the Silent Auction .

This year the event will be held at the offices of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation in Annapolis on Saturday, March 28 . Currently, donations are being solicited from generous donors. If you or your business would like to sponsor or donate an upscale item, please go to this linked page.

Day School summer camps are already half full. For camp information and registration, go to their website @ www.stmargaretsdayschool.org .
