Dragon Tales
E-News
A Note from Jeff
Happy New Year! I get to write the first Dragon Tales of the year, and there is a lot going on already!

This Friday the Youth Group is assisting St. Phillips during their time of hosting Winter Relief. We will provide a wonderful holiday-themed meal for the guests. This is just one of the many service-oriented things the Youth Group does during the year, such as also serving a meal at the Light House Shelter on April 28.

THIS Saturday, January 5 th at 9 a.m. in the Parish Hall is the dress rehearsal for the Children's Epiphany Pageant. We can always use a little extra supervision at this event! If you are good at herding cats, come by and help!
The next big event for our youth is the Martin Luther King, Jr. Lock-In sponsored by the Diocese of Maryland. We will have an evening focused on the sin of racism, how to continue our work to dismantle it, a film about overcoming racism, and discussion. There will also be time for fellowship and food. On Monday, we take time to create posters, work on a service project, and march in the parade alongside Memorial, Bolton Hill. Please join us as we take steps for the Jesus Movement! ( January 20-21, 2019 (grades 6-12, Sunday 6:00PM - Monday 3:00PM. Cost: Donations for the food pantry or warming bags).

While there are many events scheduled for the Youth this semester leading up to our Youth-led service on Mother s Day, it is important for me to highlight two scheduled Mission/Service trips.

The first is with Brethren Disaster Relief ( July 7-13, 2019, Cost: TBD Location: TBD, Deadline: January 31, 2019).  This excellent organization engages volunteers to repair and rebuild storm damaged homes for some of the most vulnerable disaster survivors, thereby easing trauma and promoting recovery. By demonstrating Christ s love and putting their faith in action as they restore damaged homes, volunteers also restore broken lives. We are still waiting to hear exactly where this year s trip will be, but most likely in the Southeast again. BDM covers virtually all the costs, so it is a very minimal outlay to participate.
The second trip is to Puerto Rico ( July 23-29, 2019, Cost: $1,250- fundraising ideas and scholarship assistance available.   Secondary deadline: NOW!)  This summer we will be traveling to our sister diocese of Puerto   Rico! There we will work with Wonder Voyage to take on jobs that no one else wants to do. The hurricanes have done unthinkable damage to the island and the lives of our brothers and sisters there. An important part of mission is to arrive with an open heart ready to learn about the culture, make new friends, and to spend time in community with the folks who live there. Our true mission is to do just that, as well as, giving help wherever we can.
These are just a few of the ways that our youth give back to our world. If you want to know more, please contact me.

Grants Liaisons Needed
This is the time of year the grants committee begins reviewing the applications for the 2019 Endowment Grants Program. Parishioners who would like a very short but very meaningful opportunity to assist the committee by being a liaison (a contact) with one of the finalist applicants can email Izzy Winn immediately at  [email protected] . A 45-minute required training session will be given to those who have signed up on Sunday, Feb. 3 at 10:20am between services. Izzy will be confirming with everyone who previously signed up at the missions fair in October.
Service Scheduling Calendar
Our Service Calendar is now available on our website. Look for the "Quick Links" tab at the bottom. Our system software company says that that linked version is "live" to reflect any changes or swaps. You still need to use the system to change dates, but at least it will reflect in a shared schedule now. That "live" schedule is what we will use for bulletins.
