Your Giving... In Action!

A sturdy house requires a solid foundation, a foundation that will support the frame, siding, and roof when the winds and rains surely come. The same is true for a life in Christ, a life whose spiritual roots will also be tested. Tested not by God, but by our own choices and the choices of others.

And that is why St. Margaret’s children and youth formation programs strive to build in our young people a spiritual foundation that will serve them for the rest of their lives. Two major elements of our programs play out in the summer – Vacation Bible School and study that precedes confirmation by our bishop.

The theme for this year’s week-long VBS program was Waves of Wonder. Children and youth – a record number of 84 – were exposed to miracles and stories of faith that centered on water. Moses tapping the rock in the desert to bring forth water, Jesus walking on water, and turning water into wine. And while Emily DelSordo, Children’s Formation Coordinator, planned and

organized the week, she was supported by 30 adult volunteers. Of the 84 participants, nearly half were from families that don’t even belong to St. Margaret’s but are attracted to the church and program. Ten were pre-K age, about half were first- through fourth-graders, and the remainder were older. Each day began with Bible stories, prayer, and opportunities to ask questions and reflect. There also was time for craft projects, play, and refreshments. And each day another stone was laid in these young people’s foundations.

The confirmation process for young people begins at the end of July and includes nine sessions over several months. Anyone can be a member of St. Margaret’s, but to be an “official” Episcopalian, one must be confirmed by a bishop. Our rector, the Rev. Peter Mayer, leads this confirmation process, and all of this year’s class of a dozen confirmands participate in either our youth program, acolyte program, or both. And the hours spent together center on the book My Faith, My Life. Yep. Laying more foundation stones.

In past years confirmands traveled to the cathedral in Baltimore to be confirmed, but this year Bishop Carrie will come to St. Margaret’s for the ceremony at the beginning of November. And while neither of these programs constitute a major share of St. Margaret’s budget, it is your giving that still makes them possible. Thank you.

Lemonade under the trees Is after the 10am service. We need hosts! All refreshments will be provided- please help facilitate this simple fellowship opportunity a few times this summer. A sign-up genius available here:https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60B084CABAA2DA7FF2-57160065-summer

St. Margaret’s Honey Harvest

August 9, 2025

Our St. Margaret’s bee colonies have been working hardstoring nectar and converting it to honey. The beekeepers and the Women’s Guild will harvest the liquid gold on August 9th starting at 9:00 am at the bee yard in the field. We will then move to the Parish Hall. We are looking for volunteers to help with the honeycomb, load an extractor, and filter the honey collected. Additionally, we need the use of someone’s pickup truck as well as if anyone has a food safe 5-gallon bucket. The St. Margaret’s Women’s Guild will then bottle the honey in jars and have them for sale. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and clothes that you don’t mind getting honey on. prayer shawl

St Margaret’s Prayer Shawl Ministry knits (or crochets or quilts) prayer shawls for the Rev Peter and the Rev Patti to give to ill or grieving parishioners who need the warmth and comfort made manifest by yarn turned prayerfully into a symbol of love and care. The Prayer Shawl Ministry also crafts blankets that are given to those baptized at St. Margaret’s. The shawls and blankets are blessed periodically at the 9:00 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. services.

The Prayer Shawl Ministry meets for knitting and fellowship 9:00-11:00 a.m. on the first Saturday of the month on the lower level of the Formation Building. (Park in the back near the Day School and enter through the backdoor—it is labeled.)

Our next meeting will be on Saturday, August 2. Join us! Bring a knitting project or start one. We have all the supplies you will need as well as a welcoming group happy to teach knitting and share crafting wisdom. Contact Janet Gellici or Karyn Sproles ksproles002@gmail.com for more information.

OPPORTUNITIES TO SUPPORT SMC's ONGOING MISSIONS

Light House: Ongoing: The Light House in Annapolis currently provides dinners year-round for up to 50 community members in need. St. Margaret’s Church parishioners provide that meal once a month. The work involves planning, purchasing, and preparing the meal in the convenience of your home and delivering it to the Light House. Reimbursement is available for your grocery costs.

Dinner Cooks are needed to cover one remaining dinner in 2025 - December 10. Providing a meal for 50 is so much easier when the cooking is shared by a group, family or friends. When the work is done and the food is delivered, the sense of helping is truly wonderful. Please click on the link below to learn more about this volunteer opportunity and to sign up: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20F0F4AABA62FA7F85-50601918-smclight
