Dragon Tales E-News
May 29, 2019
As many of you know, music is a huge part of my life. Some of my first musical memories were sitting in my granny's and grandpa's tiny home in a tiny Arkansas town and listening to Bluegrass music performed by my aunts, uncles, and cousins. My charismatic Uncle Harold would play the base line with an overturned metal bucket and a large string protruding up held by a broomstick. It was great fun, and to this day, I love listening to and singing along with Bluegrass music. My cousin Ian continues the family tradition. (See photo - He has participated in the Arkansas State Fiddle Playing Championship for his age group.)
One of my favorite events to cover at St. Margaret's is the annual Bluegrass Mass and parish picnic. Living far away from Arkansas, this event takes me home -- hearing familiar, old-time musical favorites, watching children dance and play together, catching up with old friends, eating dishes from old recipes lovingly made by parishioners -- it makes me feel like a part of the church family, like I went "home."

The annual outdoor Bluegrass Mass led by Third Sunday Band officially begins at 11:15 a.m., but I hear music will begin well before 11 a.m. so get here early. Bring a lawn chair or blanket for seating. And bring a dish to share (see below for assignments) for our parish picnic that will occur afterward). We will need everyone to pitch in to help with set up or clean up.

Here is a video to just one of the songs the band will be doing (and one of my favorites):

Giving at St. Margaret's

As we grow closer to the summer months, vacations are in the near future for many parishioners. We offer a reminder that giving regularly at St. Margaret's is an important part of sustaining the life of the parish. There are a variety of ways to continue giving even when you are away from home.

Automated giving through your bank ensures that checks are sent to St. Margaret's on a regular basis. Contact your bank to start the process of giving. (As a reminder -- we now have locked mailboxes to prevent the thefts we experienced earlier this year.)

You can make a pledge or capital campaign payment online on our website by a credit card .
