IntheNews  HELLO FROM PRINCIPAL LOWE

Dear Parents,

This week I was sitting in Ms. Keeslar's first grade class observing her teach a lesson and I was struck by something that was hanging in her room. All across one wall and down another, she has a chain of kindness. Whenever one student does something kind for someone else, the student on the receiving end of the kindness can share that with Ms. Keeslar and then the students add another loop to their kindness chain. What started with one loop at the beginning of the school year has now grown into many hundreds of loops.
As I sit here this afternoon, reflecting on the events of this past week, I am reminded that sometimes we need to look to our youngest generation to remember that kindness is really not anything difficult nor complicated It is a simple act that impacts the giver as much or more as the receiver.

My challenge to you all is to have our Flagstaff Family grow the most incredible chain of kindness imagined. If you have a teacher, staff member, student, or fellow parent treat you with kindness, please  share it with us and we will create our chain of kindness starting at our front entrance. We don't need names, just a brief description of the kindness shown. We will also have the links available at the front desk for you.

As you go through your day, think about how many links on the chain of kindness you are adding by your actions or words Think about how you can encourage your children to understand how a simple phrase or act can impact others and make the chain of kindness grow.

Together, we can create the kind of world that we all want for our children.

#chainofkindness

Take care,

Robin

What the heck is happening to the front office?

Many of you have noticed there are some changes to the front lobby. These changes are the result of your feedback we heard on the annual parent survey that we needed to improve our reception processes and make our visitors feel welcome. The physical design of the lobby has created inefficiencies for our staff and confusion for visitors.

We have been brainstorming ideas to improve our processes so that our parents, students, and visitors can easily receive the service they need. A prime example is you will now see that our receptionist is the first person you will see when you walk in. That was accomplished by moving the Raptor computers to their own free-standing kiosks and removing a cabinet to allow our receptionist to sit at the right location that best serves our visitors. We moved our Attendance Clerk to a lobby-facing position to provide better service during student sign-in and sign-out and avoid duplication of efforts. We also have a kiosk where our amazing volunteers can help you with the most common needs such as dropping off items or attendance needs. We have other process improvements being piloted to improve our customer service and business efficiency.

You will notice that there is temporary signage being used during these changes. While we continue to pilot changes for improvement, we do not want to spend money on permanent signage until we have the systems  and processes dialed in and optimized. We are also working with an interior designer and architect on how we can restructure the physical environment for safety and efficiency improvements that will be funded by the recent SVVSD bond measure that was approved by the voters. Thank you!

The ultimate goal is to provide a safe environment for your children and efficient processes to serve our parents and visitors. You will see more improvements soon and we would love your feedback on the new systems. Please let one of the staff at the front office know what you think. You can also reach out to myself or our Office Manager, Marnie Lowrey, mlowrey@flagstaffacademy.org and share your thoughts.

Thank you.

Wayne Granger,
Executive Director
Flagstaff Academy
