Happy Fall!

I can't believe it's still in the 80's over Halloween weekend, but I have a feeling this is our last gasp of summer heat.

I don't have to remind anyone that it is election season. While personalities tend to dominate the airwaves, one thing that may be overlooked are local issues such as Question 3A, the St. Vrain Valley School District's bond measure. I want to take a minute to explain the general issue and Flagstaff Academy's involvement so that you can make an informed decision.

Traditional schools fund their facilities and capital needs by issuing bonds. Per Pupil Revenue (PPR) is received from the State of Colorado to fund school operations. As a public charter school, we pay for our facilities and capital needs out of our PPR. Historically, we are not included in St. Vrain Valley School District (SVVSD) bond initiatives; however, this has changed in 2016. SVVSD has included charter schools in the 2016 bond issue. I have been working with SVVSD since December 2015 to seek consideration of our capital needs as part of the overall district needs.

After months of work by a district-wide committee, Flagstaff Academy is being included in the bond measure for the first time ever! We are included for a total of $860,000, should the SVVSD voters authorize the tax increase. These bond dollars would benefit Flagstaff Academy with the following allocation:

  • Repair to aging HVAC systems- $65,000
  • Security Camera system- $80,000
  • Complete hard surface around gym (ADA Access)- $15,000
  • Security and Efficiency Improvements to Entrance/Lobby- $300,000
  • Increase Driveline capacity (wrap around back of campus)- $400,000
For information regarding the impact this tax increase would have on your family, please view the SVVSD 2016 Bond Measure Facts page.

I hope this gives you the information needed to make an informed decision on or before Tuesday, November 8th.

Thank you for your time.
