Dear Neighbor,

Are you ready to experience a phenomenon, right here in the Dranesville District?!?! Calling all Swifties: Saturday night’s Arrowbrook Centre Park concert is a special one! LOVER: THE UNOFFICIAL ERAS TOUR, featuring Taylor Swift tribute artist Charity Eden, will kick off at 7:30 p.m. It's set to be an energetic night of songs that you know all too well (I can’t help myself with these bad jokes [but I hope there’s no bad blood]… I mean, look what you made me do!). Here’s hoping for good weather because it’s been a bit of a cruel summer. I’m not much for the heat, so I’m looking forward to getting back to December and wearing a cardigan sooner or later. If you need a little pre-show inspiration that’s better than my silly lyrical allusions (what were you expecting, a blank space here?), check out me “shaking off” a few moves. Folks, it’s going to be better than your wildest dreams! See you Saturday night!

Speaking of Saturday, I also wanted to remind you that starting on July 25, thirteen additional locations will open for early voting for the August 4 Primary Election, including the McLean Governmental Center (where my office is), the Tysons–Pimmit Regional Library, the Great Falls Library, and the Herndon Fortnightly Library here in the Dranesville District. The Republican Primary across the Dranesville District involves a choice of Senate and Congressional candidates. If you live outside the Beltway in the Dranesville District, there is no Democratic Primary; inside-the-Beltway, Democratic primary voters have a choice in the 8th Congressional District Race. You can learn more about the August 4, 2026 Dual Primary Election including sample ballots, voter registration information, and more here. Please note that unlike on Election Day where you must vote at an assigned polling place, any registered Fairfax County voter can vote at any early voting location. Early in-person voting runs until August 1!

NVTC Commuter Choice Projects

The Northern Virginia Transportation Commission (NVTC) announced that the Commonwealth Transportation Board has approved funding for six Fairfax County projects through the I‑66 Commuter Choice FY 2027–2028 Program of Projects. This includes continued support for key Fairfax Connector commuter routes—598, 697, 698, and 699—which serve major employment centers across the region. The program will fund a new limited‑stop WMATA Route F2X along the Route 7 corridor, improving east–west connectivity and expanding high‑frequency transit options for thousands of daily riders. The program also supports a second new WMATA route, the A6X, which will offer limited-stop service between Dunn Loring and the Pentagon via Arlington Boulevard. Together, these investments strengthen mobility across Fairfax County and enhance reliable, efficient alternatives to driving for residents and commuters. Visit this webpage for more information.

FCPS’ Summer Meal Service Program provides breakfast and lunch free of charge to all children aged 18 and younger. In the Dranesville District, meals are available at Hutchison Elementary School. Fairfax County Health Department is offering back-to-school immunization clinics for all students in Fairfax County who need immunizations, regardless of if they have had vaccines. Children who are enrolled in preschool and community-based childcare centers may also receive needed immunizations during these clinic hours.

Blue Sky Puppet Theatre is proud to present "Rufus", a funny and fast paced show with an adorable main character. Rufus, a shy little dog, has been lost from his owner. He's been stuck out in the rain and he hasn’t had much to eat in two weeks. He meets the audience and asks for their help. Families with children of all ages will love this charming story about acceptance and kindness.

Fairfax County Public Library (FCPL) and the Fairfax Library Foundation invite school-age youth (grades 3-6), teens (grades 7-12), and adults (ages 18+) to participate in their fourth annual "The World We Write" short story writing contest. Use one of the following prompts to write a 250-word story: 

• The forest accepted her as one of its own. 
• I told him not to eat that piece of pie... 
• Everyone at this party has a secret. 
• The job was mysterious and important. 
• We hold these truths to be self-evident... (America 250 theme) 

Three winners from each age group (grades 3 - 6, grades 7-12, and adults) will receive a $25 gift card and a certificate signed by Eric Carzon, the Library Director, and the Executive Director for the Fairfax Library Foundation. These short stories will be featured on the FCPL website.

The Fairfax County Police Department's McLean District Station invites you to attend a FREE Traffic Safety Town Hall to learn about current traffic initiatives, hear from local transportation experts, and ask questions about the issues that matter most to you and your neighborhood.

Representatives from the Fairfax County Police Traffic Division, Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), and the Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) will discuss topics including:

The National Park Service has reached substantial completion of the north parkway rehabilitation project on the George Washington Memorial Parkway. Some finishing work will continue during off-peak travel hours. Motorists can expect travel impacts once crews begin rehabilitation efforts on the Route 123 Interchange bridge.
