WTAMU Hosts Homeschool

Science Event

On Friday, May 2, the Paul Engler College of Agriculture and Natural Sciences hosted a science homeschool event. The event was attended by 31 middle school and high school age homeschool students from the Panhandle Christian Home Educators Association.


Together with the Office of Enrollment Management, the College showcased various academic programs, including those available through the WTAMU Pre-University Program and Education on Demand.


Attendees were able to explore careers in the field of science, and meet with current students and faculty during breakout sessions that were organized by degree plans.


 Additionally, participants had the opportunity to attend the student organization fair and learn more about WTAMU during a campus tour

WT Rodeo Team Competes at Tarleton Stampede

WT's Rodeo Team competed in the Tarleton Stampede at the Lone Star Arena in Stephenville, TX on April 24-26.


WT competed against 17 universities and colleges during this regional finale.



Individual Results

  • Champion All Around Cowboy
  • 4th in the average in steer wrestling
  • 7th in the average in tie down roping

Weston Peters:

  • 4th in tie-down roping

Josue Molina:

  • 6th in saddle bronc riding

Kiley Hargrave:

  • 6th in barrel racing

Hayden Bass

  • 6th in team roping

Emma Smith:

  • 8th barrel racing

Biven Chapman:

  • 16th in breakaway

Pre-Healthcare Club Hosts Guest Speakers

Students from the Pre-Healthcare Club gained expertise from Dr. Allison Robinson, Assistant Professor of Physical Therapy Program at Hardin-Simmons University, during their April meeting.


At this meeting, students also heard from Michael Ammons, a first-year medical student at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. Ammons explained to club members his experience as a medical student.

Student Named 2025 AMSA Scholarship Recipient

Congratulations to WTAMU Ph.D. student, Megan Eckhardt, on being named a recipient of the Phi Tau Sigma- American Meat Science Association Research with Impact Scholarship.


The AMSA scholarship aims to highlight the importance of original research that relate to specific issues in the meat and food industry.


The Phi Tau Sigma- AMSA Research with Impact Scholarship is awarded to members or graduated members of AMSA and whose research has made a significant impact on the industry.

Student Elected to MANRRS 2025-2026 Executive Committee

Congratulations to animal science major, Francisco Ortega, on being elected to the National Society of Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources and Related Sciences 2025-2026 Executive Committee.


As a National Officer, Ortega will represent MANRRS at events nationwide, conduct chapter visits and participate at the MANRRS 40th Annual Training Conference and Career Expo.

Soils Judging Team Competes at National Contest

The WT Soils Judging Team traveled to Stevens Point, WI for the 2025 National Collegiate Soil Judging Contest.


Assistant Professor of Plant, Soil, and Environmental Science, Dr. Lauren Selph, coached the 11 WTAMU students who competed in the contest held from April 27- May 2.


The WT Soils Judging Team was one of the 28 collegiate teams who qualified for the national contest.


Students competed in individual and team pits and had the opportunity to network though a career fair and learn about agriculture in the local area.


Dr. Selph explained the team's experience at this contest.


"This year's national team members really demonstrated their grit and dedication by completing the contest in a cold Wisconsin rainstorm," Dr. Selph said. "Their hard work paid off in the results. I am proud to coach these hardworking students."
