Wildlife Society Hosts

Guest Speaker

The Wildlife Society hosted guest speaker, Borger Fire Department Wildlife Coordinator, Archie Stone, at their meeting on Oct 17.

Mr. Stone elaborated on his experience and duties as a Wildlife Coordinator and Certified Prescribed Burn Manager.

WT Wildlife Society President and junior Wildlife Biology major, Audrey Adkison, spoke about this meeting.

"We have never had someone come speak at our meetings specifically about fire and prescribed burns," said Adkison. "It was a really interesting discussion, and students really enjoyed it. We also had free pizza, door prizes, and the officers who lost the t-shirt design contest got pied in the face by members. It was really silly, and everyone had a good time."

Staff Member Helps Community Through Service Projects

Department of Chemistry and Physics staff member, Ms. Berlin McIntosh, has initiated annual community service projects to provide resources to WTAMU students and the Canyon community.

For the past decade, McIntosh has knitted more than three hundred scarves and hats, to  distribute to students on campus.

Currently, Berlin is working with the WTAMU Staff Council to host a Peanut Butter Drive. The drive will provide peanut butter to the WT Student Food Pantry and Canyon ISD through FILL WITH HOPE, a nonprofit organization that provides food for Canyon ISD students to take home for the weekend. Drop off locations include the Cornette Library Access Desk, JBK Student Engagement Office, Harrington Amarillo Center and Natural Sciences Building Suite 106.

Lastly, the Winter Clothing Drive collects items that will be given to Amarillo Housing First and Code Blue Warming Station. This service project is in partnership with the WTAMU Chapter of the American Chemical Society. Donations to the Winter Clothing Drive can be dropped off in rooms 101 and 103 in the Natural Sciences Building.
