City seeks amendment for accessory dwelling units
In 2016 and 2017, Governor Brown signed several bills designed to alleviate California’s housing crisis by expediting the construction of accessory dwelling units (or ADUs). As a result of these new regulations, any local ordinance that addresses ADUs will become invalid if it does not comply with state law.

Commission to hear final draft of Dream Your Park plan
In October 2016, the City contracted with GreenPlay, LLC to develop San Gabriel’s first comprehensive Parks and Open Space Master Plan known as Dream Your Park . The final plan will be reviewed by the Community Services Commission at their meeting on June 4, with a public meeting held at 6:30 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall.

City Council to reevaluate Mission District in new study
To help draw more economic activity to the City’s historic core, the City Council has agreed to move forward with an economic analysis and feasibility study to reevaluate the Mission District.

Since the adoption of the Mission District Specific Plan in 2004, these sites have not been fully developed despite several aesthetic and infrastructure improvements. With the City Council’s decision to move forward with the study, a report will be created that studies development scenarios in the City's historic core.
