Dear Friends,
In a world where humans are depleting Earth's natural resources and over-consumption has the potential to threaten our existence, we are calling on individuals like you to act and live up to their environmental responsibilities.
We are proud to announce that The Dream in Green Academy has begun its 13th program year. Our organization continues to provide educational resources to students, teachers, and individuals to make informed decisions about how their actions can impact the sustainability of our planet. We would like to highlight some of the things we are doing as well as share how our partners are also taking action to save our planet.
Thank you to all of our supporters and followers, if you would like to join our mission and help us expand our reach in South Florida through educational programs consider
supporting Dream in Green

Sincerely,
Barbara Martinez-Guerrero

Did you know that Americans waste an unfathomable amount of food? In fact, according to a report released in 2016, roughly fifty percent of all produce in the United States is thrown away—some 60 million tons (or $160 billion) worth of produce annually. Wasted food is also the single biggest occupant in American landfills. This year, schools can implement composting programs as a solution to reduce the amount of trash that ends up in the landfill with the help of the Kirk Foundation's Compost Challenge.

Deedly is so excited to be partnering with Dream in Green to connect students, educators, and everyone in between with the tools needed to creatively engage in the fight against climate change. Deedly, like Dream in Green, has a vision of a world where sustainability is the norm, and the health of the planet is considered in all the decisions we make, as well as in all the dollars we spend. But to achieve this future, we need to educate and activate young people from all around the world. It will take creative solutions, and the brain power of of young people everywhere. Like Einstein famously said, “No problem can be solved with the same thinking that created it,” and that piece of wisdom is at the core of what we do at Deedly.
Students today are inheriting consequences on the health of our planet that they did not create, but are serious nonetheless. Young people today do not think in the same manner as those before them, especially when it comes to protecting the planet. We have seen their great willingness to sacrifice and organize to protect it - and thank goodness! Like Dream in Green, Deedly believes, then, that it is our job to give them the tools, confidence, and efficacy to affect the change they are hoping for. . . and we intend on doing so. Through Deedly’s interactive media, charity partners, and opportunities for students to use our site to give real donor dollars towards the causes they care about, we know we can support students as they become engaged not just in one cause, but over their entire lifetime. - Andrew Resnik, founder

Highlighting Environmental Leaders

Meet Nadiia Linchuk
Community Solutions Fellow
Nadiia is a fellow joining Drema in Green from Ukraine through the Community Solutions Program run by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State and implemented by IREX. This program promotes positive change in communities across the globe by engaging with select individuals and providing them opportunities to grow their leadership skills, technical expertise, and network to achieve their vision for change.
As a manager of environmental programs for Community Foundation Podilska Hromada in Ukraine, Nadiia has experience providing a system of waste collection and separation and increasing environmental awareness among citizens through educational projects for adults and children. Her organization's mission is to activate and unite the community to address pressing needs by developing a culture of philanthropy.
While with Dream in Green Nadiia hopes to learn more about the education of students and adults on environmental issues and how to implement similar projects when she returns to Ukraine.

Meet Chris Medina
FIU intern
Chris is completing a B.A. in Liberal Studies with a focus in Environmental Studies. His love for the environment began at an early age while helping his grandmother with yard work during the summers. These experiences gave him a well-rounded appreciation of the vital relationship between plants and humans. His interest in the intersection of people and the environment, coupled with his passion for law, has led Chris to pursue a career in Environmental Law.
Through his studies, he has developed a thorough and integrated understanding of how law and science go hand in hand. As he sees it, law is a powerful tool used to bridge the gap between science and policy. Chris understands the need for community involvement and active participation in environmental stewardship.
He is honored to take on this role because he knows that environmental conservation organizations in South Florida have never been more important than they are right now – given the present state of our environmental situation.

Meet Demi Amideneau
FIU intern
Demi is completing a B.A in Environmental Sustainability. She has always cared deeply about the environment and credits this to the early influences of ecocentric movies such as Princess Mononoke and Castle in the Sky, as well as a passionate eighth grade earth science teacher. It was from that class she knew that dealing with environmental issues needed to be at the forefront of any career path she chose. Throughout the next few years, she started to understand how issues of equity are deeply rooted in environmental problems and was hooked on the idea of connecting all these dots to finding solutions to save our Earth for everyone.
This internship offered through the Tropical Conservation Institute serves as an integral part in her career. She always felt a bit lost about the way she wanted to pursue her passion for conservation and equity so working with Dream in Green has been perfect for getting a feel for what it’s like to work for a non-profit. She’s learning it’s not easy! Demi is currently working on compiling data on how the workshops have impacted students in both their behaviors and attitudes towards environmental issues.
