Welcome back! As winter weather blows in around us, gardening lovers spend their down time for dreaming and planning gardens. I have included a few inspirational & dreamy plants in our first newsletter of the year. Here at the garden centre we are busy working behind the scenes planting, seeding and planning for Spring 2019. Matt just informed me that 18,200 cutting are set to arrive next week! Here at Gemmell's we plant over 60,000 plant cuttings and between 40,000-50,000 seeds. Pretty impressive huh?

My dreams for 2019 for this place are; brand new renovated cashes, a newly designed and planted display garden at the front of the greenhouse, and a few sitting areas to chill out and take a break in the nursery and perennials. Oh and that gorgeous annual combination from Proven Winners above is also on my dream list!

We came back from Toronto Gift Show recently where we saw what 25 cm of snow can do to that city ( it ain't pretty). We found lots of new fresh and funky styles for the spring. Including some fun new jewelry and clothing lines. We also found an amazing line of eco-soy candles that are made up the Valley in the coolest white tin farmhouse style reusable containers with lids! LOVE!

Our 2019 spring workshop line up is now up on our website. There are several workshops to choose from with more new workshops to be added in the next few weeks !

Peace & Plants,
Colour of the Year
Every year (since 2000) Pantone declares a 'Colour of the Year ' which they claim is more of a trend observation than a forecast. Look for lots of 'living coral' inspiration in flower and plants this season!

Hibiscus Berry Awesome
New in our 2019 lineup. This perennial hibisicus is a show stopper! Huge 8" ruffled lavender pink flowers with deep serrated blue green foliage. Blooming nonstop in late summer. 40-48" tall in full sun
Hosta Diamond Lake
We have a weakness fro unique hostas. This beauty has huge wavy blue leaves that can get 9" wide by 11" long. The thick corrugated foliage deters pesky slugs. Grows 18" x 45 inches wide with soft lavender flowers.
Helleborus 'First Dance'
This new perennial from the Wedding Party Series is gorgeous! 2 " flowers of soft yellow with maroon edging. These harbingers of spring bloom for up to 6 weeks in early spring. They prefer dappled shade and moist soil. Perfect woodland planting. 18" tall by 24" wide part shade.

Boho Bracelets
Couldn't pick just one so we choose all these styles of rose gold and turquoise boho style bracelets for the store! So many NEW lines of bracelets, necklaces and earrings for 2019. We are excited !
Ever since the houseplant craze has taken hold we are always on the look out for new and cool pots . These are a few of the many styles we chose for our ceramics line up for 2019. Simple or patterned we have some really unique choices to fit every style.
Victorian Basket Workshop

DESIGN & PLANT your very own hanging basket or planter at our most popular spring workshop! Learn how to keep your baskets beautiful all summer long. Best part? We will keep it here at the greenhouse and grow it until May. Spaces fill up fast!

Pilea peperomioides
Check out this funky houseplant. Also known as the 'Pass It On Plant' because it produces little babies that you can pot up and give away to friends. Easy to care for and grow. Medium light and let dry a but between waterings.
Peperomia 'Ripple''

One of my favourite easy to grow small houseplants! Cool rippled foliage makes this tropical on the must have list for 2019. This family of plants has many different foliage variations within it but 'Ripple' still is my fav. Easy to grow! Medium light, water when soil is dry to the touch. That's it ! P.S. I am in love with white pots this season can you tell?
