University Scholarship Program Update
Thanks to generous donors who responded to our request for help, our scholarship program for 2024-25 is fully funded! Our ten rising university students will have our support as they start the next phase of their education. We look forward to sharing updates on their progress with you all!
We are especially excited for Keyla Alejandra Campos Solis, who graduated prepa (high school) in first place in her class--what we would call the valedictorian, with a grade point average of 9.9 out of 10! This Majahua resident has been the star salesperson and merchandiser at the Las Hermanas boutique for the last few years. We are so proud of her and wish her the best as she goes on to study International Logistics in Petatalan.
The photos below were taken on the day the ten students received their scholarship acceptance letters. Just look at the joy and pride on the faces of these students and their parents. Priceless! Thank you to all who donated to the Scholarship Fund. We anticipate this program growing, as more students focus on creating opportunities for themselves through education, so please consider making a one-time, or recurring, donation to this fund to ensure these and future students can follow their dreams.

It's Graduation Season!
The local schools have held their graduation ceremonies, and students from kinder through high school were honored by teachers, parents, and friends. These ceremonies are a reminder that education is valued in this community, and students are rewarded for their achievements while encouraged to move on to the next level. Here are some photos from these recent events. Las Hermanas Board Member and Education Director Kim Kovel, along with Las Hermanas community representative Pedro Palacio, attended most of these celebrations as guests of honor.

Our Summer Program Begins
The summer program at our Learning Center began on July 15, and we were amazed at the turnout. We are happy to say that 40 primary and secondary students showed up, which is double last year's attendance! Since there were too students to fit in one classroom, with one teacher, Education Director Kim Kovel and lead teacher Benjamin quickly came up with the solution of offering two classes, running simultaneously, to ensure each student will receive personal attention from our certified teachers. We are grateful to teachers Maritza and Benjamin for their dedication and flexibility! Maritza is now teaching the primary students in our Learning Center, while at the same time, Benjamin is teaching the secondary students in the Library. Our costs will go up due to more teaching hours, but thanks to our generous donors, we are able to make it happen without turning eager students away.
Reading and comprehension classes are on Monday and Friday mornings, mathematics tutoring is on Thursday mornings, and handicrafts workshops are offered on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. For those who want to learn English, there are three different levels available on various days, including a session for girls on Saturday mornings, each with teacher Ulises. Additionally, the library will be open and staffed by Benjamin on Friday afternoons from 3 to 6 pm.
We are fortunate to have this Learning Center and Library on the main street of town, staffed by dedicated and professional educators. As always, this summer program would not be possible without your donations. Thank you!

New Opportunity to Help
As you read above, we have secured spaces for our learning center and library, as well as the beloved Las Hermanas Boutique on the beach road. All of these spaces are rentals, and they are a major part of our expenses.
We are excited to announce that we are reviving an earlier way donors supported us, which is to sponsor a month’s rent for one of these locations at $200, perhaps in honor of someone special. Let us know which month you would like, and for which facility, and we will feature your honorary donation in next month’s newsletter.

Student of the Month
The July 2024 Student of the Month is ROCIO PALACIOS SANCHEZ.
Rocio is an exceptional student who possesses communication skills and poise far beyond her six years.
She loves animals and she loves learning, and so she has two big dreams. She wants to be a veterinarian and/or a teacher. She wants to help kids learn to read and write, because she knows how much fun it is.
It is because of these qualities, and her charisma, dedication and sense of responsibility, that Rocio has been awarded the title of Student of the Month for July.
