We had a busy spring at Dress for Success Southern Nevada. 
As we get ready for summer, we hope everyone takes some time to stop and appreciate all that is beautiful around us. 
Volunteer Spotlight - 
Facilitators of Going Places Network by Walmart

Many Dress for Success clients face challenges in finding a job. The Going Places Network by Walmart offers a 12-week safety net of support to women who have participated in our Suiting Program but have not yet secured employment. Clients meet for two hours each week, attend a workshop series on relevant job search topics, network with fellow participants and receive additional one-on-one job search support.

 

Cheryl Piche and Eileen Jones are volunteer facilitators for the Going Places Network. Cheryl moved to Henderson from Michigan where she helped individuals with their job search efforts, including preparing for interviews. Cheryl also had worked with a Michigan prison release program that helped prior inmates become work ready and educate them on how the job search field had changed since they had become incarcerated.

 

Eileen is a seasoned Human Resources professional with over 20 years of human resources management. She is the principal consultant of Blue Sage HR Solutions, and prior to starting her own consulting firm, Eileen held HR management positions working for Fortune 500 organizations in Southern California and Nevada. She is passionate about using her experience in human resources to help others achieve their goals.

 

With their previous experiences in HR as well as helping people prepare for interviews and find employment, Cheryl and Eileen contribute great knowledge and information to the clients of The Going Places Network and are "proud to be a part of helping each and everyone reach their goals."

Looking to get involved?

We are always looking for new people to assist our clients on their journey to self-sufficiency. Below is a list of our current volunteer needs, but please let us know if you have a special interest or skill you feel would be beneficial. 

 

Boutique Assistant - (minimum 1 shift/month) If you have a passion for organization and enjoy discovering treasures you will LOVE working in our boutique! We receive a high volume of donations, including clothing, shoes, handbags, jewelry and the occasional surprise! These items all need to be inspected for quality and once approved, organized into our inventory. Office help is also included in this area, tasks such as filing and data entry are also needed to keep things running smoothly.

 

Image Consultant - (minimum 1 shift/month) Use your talents to style our wonderful clients to get them ready for their job interview! You will be responsible for working one-on-one with clients, selecting stylish outfits appropriate for their needs. You will also offer interview tips and confidence boosting to help them succeed in this next step of their life.

 

Boutique Lead
- (minimum 2 shifts/month) Are you looking for a way to get involved on a weekly basis and make a significant impact on our daily operations? Boutique Leads have keys to the building and are responsible for opening/closing the boutique, overseeing tasks and managing volunteers during their shift. They also have the option of being Image Consultants during the same shift.

 

Committee Members - Joining a committee is a great way to get involved if you are not available during our boutique's normal operating hours. Most committees meet in the evenings once per month or have conference calls as needed. Current committees include:

  • Suiting - Oversees the Operations of the Boutique, including the volunteer program and referral agencies. Organizes 2-3 clothing sales each year.
  • Little Black Dress (LBD) Club - Responsible for maintaining contact with LBD members, soliciting vendor partnerships, planning membership events and recruiting new members
  • Fundraising - Event planning, soliciting donations (both monetary and in-kind), and grant writing.
  • Public Relations/Marketing - Coordinates promotion and media relations as well as manages our social media and digital marketing efforts.
  • Power Walk - Plans this annual event, including soliciting sponsors and signing up walkers
  • PWG - Chooses topics, coordinates speakers, plans refreshments and attends the group's meetings on the 3rd Wednesday of every month.
  • GPN - Reviews resumes, conducts mock interviews, and attends GPN classes as available.

We hold new volunteer orientations for anyone interested in volunteering every first Saturday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., at the Dress for Success Boutique at 3400 West Desert Inn Road Suite 25. Please RSVP to jodi@dfssouthernnevada.org  

Support Dress for Success at the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf in June!
Visit your local Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf and while you enjoy your favorite coffee or tea beverage, be sure to buy a dangler to support Dress for Success Southern Nevada.

Danglers will be on sale for $1 each for the entire month of June.

Springtime in Paris - a special champagne luncheon and fashion show
Dress for Success Southern Nevada held its inaugural "Springtime in Paris" Champagne Luncheon on Friday, April 5 at the Paris Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. 

Guests came decked out in their best hats and springtime attire. And world renowned hat designer, Louisa Voisine, had many of her unique creations on sale and on display during the fashion show that followed a delicious, 3-course plated meal. 

     

The event also featured a silent auction and a champagne toast led by honorary chairwoman, Cindy Dreibelbis. And the always fashionable Olivia Fierro of Fox 5 News was the event's emcee. 

 

Over 300 guests attended the luncheon, with the proceeds benefiting Dress for Success of Southern Nevada. Thank you to all of our attendees, sponsors and volunteers who made the event a great success!  

The second annual Power Walk 
On Saturday, May 18, Dress for Success Southern Nevada held its second annual Power Walk at Town Square. Hundreds of runners and walkers came out to support the event which featured a Jazzercise warm-up and live music from Daze Gone By.

Participants also got to enjoy a festival after they finished the 5k or 1-mile course that included face-painting for the kids, free chair massages from the Nevada School of Massage Therapy, and offerings from numerous other vendors. The family and pet friendly event offered something for everyone. Thanks to all of our sponsors and participants for supporting the Power Walk and Dress for Success Southern Nevada.  


  

  
Shopping for Success
This past April, we again opened our boutique for Shop for Success, making room for new spring and summer fashions. Shop for Success offer shoppers the opportunity to find high-end designer apparel at reduced prices with all proceeds benefiting Dress for Success Southern Nevada.

Shoppers came from all over the Las Vegas valley and Cora (pictured) even drove in from Los Angeles! If you missed April's event, stay tuned for details on the next Shop for Success this fall.
