What's Happening Now...
Road, Sidewalk and Pathway Construction  
The City of Novi prides itself on maintaining open lines of communication and keeping community members apprised of the latest in road and  non-motorized construction projects. 

The following information is intended to provide an overview of current projects.

Please note: All completion dates are merely estimates. Projects could extend beyond those dates due to unforeseen issues with the project and inclement weather.
Oakland County Transportation  Updates

RCOC is having a contractor finish the balance of concrete panel work remaining from the 2018 project which concentrated on the intersection of 12 Mile and Meadowbrook Road. The work was expected to begin this week.
Estimated completion date: November 15, 2019

RCOC closed Haggerty Road on Oct. 3. The contractor completed the installation of the new culverts, new concrete curbs and final grading for the roadway. The plan was to have the paving done and new guardrail installed to reopen Haggerty Road this week. The final roadway markings will take place under traffic control next week.

City of Novi Projects

The 2019 program is now complete. Over the next couple weeks, the contractor will be revisiting this year's segments to seal joints and complete the restoration.

This week the contractor will begin removing and replacing the existing concrete at Novi Road and Crescent Boulevard. This work will take place in two stages. Stage 1 - remove and replace the inside lanes of Crescent Boulevard and temporarily closing the NB Novi Road left turn lane to WB Crescent Boulevard. Stage 2 - reconstruct the outer lanes of Crescent Boulevard and temporarily closing the dedicated SB Novi Road right turn lane to trucks only. This work will take approximately two weeks to complete.

The contractor has closed Flint Street (gravel portion), from Grand River to Novi Road. A bulk of the earthwork and grading has taken place, but now the contractor is currently stopped until Detroit Edison and associated franchise utilities can relocate their facilities out of the limits of the roadway. The contractor has also completed the underground storm water detention system along the north end of Flint Street. Installation of the large box-span culvert for the Middle Rouge River will take place over the next 2-3 weeks.

The final course of asphalt has recently been placed on Trans-X Drive and fully reopened to normal traffic operations. Friday, Saturday and possibly Sunday, the contractor will place the final course of asphalt on Cabot and Lewis drives. They are also expected to begin concrete curb and sidewalk removals and replacements at the intersection of West Oaks Drive and Donelson Drive. Late next week, the contractor will begin milling this intersection, making repairs to the milled surface and placing the top course of pavement.

The contractor is expected to be complete with the open-cut sections of sanitary sewer, west of Garfield this week. Over the next couple of weeks, the contractor will be upgrading the size and location of the dewatering system in order to better handle the amount of ground water encountered to date. With this upgrade, we expect to see more progress in the coming months on the directional drilling segments west of Beck Road.

The contractor plans to close the Cranbrooke Drive bridge on Monday, October 21. A majority of the work planned for this bridge is slated for the northbound side. All work is expected to take approximately two weeks to complete.

The City's contractor will be closing South Lake Drive for approximately five days starting on Monday, Oct. 28 to construct and tie-in a new water main into the existing water main located in the middle of South Lake Drive. The posted detour will direct all traffic to use West Park Drive; Twelve Mile Road; Novi Road and Old Novi Road and vice versa depending on which side of the closure local traffic is located.

In August 2012, Novi citizens overwhelmingly passed a road millage allowing for more than $5 million to be used in annual road and pathway investments. Funds will be used to maintain and improve neighborhood (subdivision/side streets) and major municipal roadways (mile roads, Beck Road, etc.), and to make sidewalk and pathway connections.
