Drive Clean Indiana Members Awarded Over
$2.7 million in Indiana Volkswagen Grants

VW Committee Approves over $3 Million to Reduce Diesel Emissions Across Indiana

ST. JOHN, INDIANA — Drive Clean Indiana and some of its members were awarded over $2.7 million in Indiana Volkswagen Environmental Mitigation Trust Fund grants funds. The Indiana Volkswagen Mitigation Trust Fund Committee (Committee) awarded a total of $3,361,120 to nine projects around the state that will reduce diesel emissions in local communities.

Of the nine awards, six were Drive Clean Indiana Members. Drive Clean Indiana’s Program Director, Ryan Lisek, said “DCI partnered with our members to develop and write these innovative, clean transportation applications which depict each company’s continued commitment to decarbonizing their Indiana-based operations. Each project consists of all-electric or hybrid-electric powered equipment and will deploy the latest innovative equipment option within the represented industry sector. These projects reduce supply chain emissions across commercial industries that are the backbone of the Indiana economy.”

The awards will fund a total of eight (8) pieces of equipment: three electric terminal trucks, a port operated all-electric truck unloader, a wheel loader; three material handlers, and an electric construction recycling plant.

The Drive Clean Indiana projects span Dearborn, Lake, Madison, Marion, and Porter counties. These awards account for over 81% of the grants approved for funding. These projects will reduce harmful pollutants within disadvantaged communities that are overburdened by diesel emission pollution and considered environmental justice communities.
