Volume V, May 2021
Driveway Concert, Circus Art, and Chick Corea
Dear Friends

Spring is Here and so is our first Driveway concert - Saturday, May 1, 6pm, celebrating Duke Ellington, Keith Jarrett and a taste of our upcoming Germany tour - here is info for streaming, email me for the address.

And yes, a real tour with real musicians in mostly virtual settings. It's been an emotional rollercoaster with the German lockdown but the organizers of the Women in Jazz Festival in Halle were able to work out a virtual plan. Together with Reut Regev, Igal Foni, and Jasna Jovicevic we're forming an intercontinental unit with quarantine repertoire - MoRe Jas PIg. We'll also lead hybrid workshops, signups are open, and of course the concerts and workshops can be accessed from anywhere - more information here.

Indiana Jazz Masters in the Schools is now available for all teachers with interactive videos, lesson plans, and resources on the B'town Jazz website. With support from the Smithville Charitable Foundation and master teachers Lisa Zorn and Maggie Olivo, we were able to create this amazing resource to go public on International Jazz Day, April 30. At 4pm EST, we'll be live on youtube (mherzig2 channel) and Facebook (Monika Herzig) sharing the materials and teaching strategies and answering questions - more info at B'town Jazz.
Also in celebration of International Jazz Day with support from the German Embassy in Washington, I'll take the stage in Changamire's New Jazz Listener room in the Clubhouse app 2-3pm EST. This is a fascinating new community - here is more info.

And many have asked me about Zackary Herzig's progress in the only college diploma granting circus school in the US - he is graduating! And on Saturday May 1, 8pm EST the thesis projects of the graduating class will be streamed, here are the links :

I'm more than excited to announce a special all-star celebration of what would have been Chick Corea's 80th birthday on June 12 at the Indianapolis Jazz Kitchen. This is also my birthday - see you there!

Happy Spring

Monika
