AUGUST 2020 | ISSUE 65
CFX announced at the August Board meeting that the planning process for the 2045 Master Plan will begin this month. The 2045 Master Plan is a long-range planning study that identifies potential transportation projects over the next 25 years.

CFX will seek input from community stakeholders in Brevard, Lake, Orange, Osceola and Seminole Counties. This vital input will be evaluated and incorporated into the final plan. In previous CFX Master Plans, stakeholder input helped identify key projects that are complete or under construction, including the Wekiva Parkway and the I-4/SR 408 Interchange. To learn more and keep up with Master Plan updates go to CFXway.com.
Did you know that tolls you pay on CFX expressways, stay right here in Central Florida? Your toll dollars are invested in critical infrastructure projects that allow CFX to meet our region’s growing travel demands.
At the August Board meeting, CFX Director of Construction Ben Dreiling, P.E., presented an update on the following 2020 projects. Click the project names to read more.
Recently Completed Projects
Completed in January, this project included the construction of new lanes and sound walls, a bridge replacement over Alafaya Trail, and the elimination of back-to-back loop ramps at Rouse Road.

Completed in April, this project was the Florida Transportation Builders Association’s 2020 “Best in Construction” award-winner. The project added a flyover ramp at the SR 408/SR 417 interchange and created additional lanes to improve traffic flow.

CFX recently resurfaced 14 miles of SR 528 between SR 417 and SR 420. CFX took advantage of innovative LIDAR technology to create an exceptional drainage system that enhances the safety of the expressway surface for high-speed travel.
Ongoing Projects
CFX is adding another lane to the SR 408 Westbound Mills Avenue exit ramp (Exit 11B) on west SR 408. Other additions include traffic signals, pedestrian walkways, lighting, and Wrong Way Driver Detection and Prevention equipment.

This project expands the expressway from four to six lanes, adding a needed travel lane in both directions. The project also replaces two cash lanes with electronic toll lanes to further enhance traffic flow.

CFX is building new ramps to allow direct access between Stoneybrook West Parkway and SR 429 south of CR 535 (Winter Garden Vineland Road) to relieve congestion at this heavily traveled interchange.

Q: What’s the difference between E-PASS and SunPass?

A: Both E-PASS and SunPass work on all toll roads throughout Florida, Georgia and North Carolina, but the two transponders differ in certain ways. While both transponders give a discount over cash, only E-PASS offers additional volume discounts on CFX expressways, a FREE toll sticker, as well as an 18-state toll transponder, Uni, that works on toll roads from Florida to Maine and west to Illinois.

And remember, all tolls paid on CFX expressways are reinvested right back into Central Florida.

I-4 Ultimate opened a new fly-over ramp connecting westbound State Road 408 to westbound I-4 in July. This is the final ramp to open at the SR 408/I-4 Interchange, following ramps that opened in May 2020.

Additionally, I-4 Ultimate opened the new Orange Avenue to westbound SR 408 entrance ramp in early August. This returns the SR 408 entrance ramp to its pre-construction location. With the opening of the new ramp, the temporary ramp to westbound SR 408 from Division Avenue was permanently closed.

CFX is dedicated to engaging the community safely during the COVID-19 pandemic. Two pre-construction public meetings were held virtually in July to provide information to the community and invite feedback.

The virtual public meetings focused on the third segment of the upcoming SR 417 Corridor Widening Projects and the Poinciana Parkway Widening Project.

During both meetings, attendees viewed a presentation about the projects, including the locations of proposed sound walls. Design team members answered attendees’ questions and shared updates with residents about what to expect during construction.

Future public meeting announcements will be posted on CFX’s Meeting Calendar.
