JANUARY 2025 | ISSUE 107

CFX is reminding customers to stay alert to an ongoing texting Phishing Scam. The text scam poses as a tolling agency and urges recipients to settle outstanding toll amounts or risk a late fee if the purported unpaid toll balance does not get settled immediately. The text also supplies a fraudulent link that recipients are asked to click to pay the bill.

Consumers should not reply to suspicious texts or click on links or attachments. CFX will not text you about an outstanding toll balance. E-PASS account holders can use approved safe methods to check their accounts such as the official CFX E-PASS website or the E-PASS app available from the Apple App Store, or Google Play store. Construction Underway on SR 516

CFX is making great progress since breaking ground on the SR 516 Lake/ Orange Expressway project. Construction between the Lake/Orange County Line and SR 429 kicked off in August of 2024. Retaining walls are being built, and bridge foundations are starting to take shape. The new 4.4-mile expressway, constructed in three segments, will offer a crucial connection between Lake and Orange counties. The expressway will create a seamless route linking the busy US 27 in south Lake County to the essential State Road 429 corridor in west Orange County.

Built with innovation and the purpose preparing for emerging technologies, a less than one-mile section of SR 516 will serve as a revolutionary testbed for the nation’s first electrified highway piloting induction charging at highway speeds. This pilot will allow CFX to understand road infrastructure and technical requirements for electric vehicles so they can charge while they drive. SR 516 will be the most sustainable project ever delivered by CFX. This environmentally friendly facility – including a wildlife tunnel, solar arrays and more - balances transportation needs with conservation and energy efficiency.

SR 429 Flex Lanes Testing Underway

CFX has been working to bring the latest safety and travel technology to west Central Florida’s vital State Road 429 corridor. As part of that mission, testing of Flex Lanes has begun on State Road 429, from Tilden Road to south of Florida’s Turnpike.

CFX implemented new technology and shoulder use to manage incidents efficiently and safely for travelers. Overhead messages inform drivers of open or blocked lanes in the event of an incident and notify travelers if the inside shoulder is available for use when an incident closes one or more travel lanes. This helps to keep traffic moving and improves travel times while enhancing safety. Be sure to follow the Flex Lanes signs and devices to know when the lane is open, closing or closed. The project also expands the critical evacuation route to six lanes. Testing will begin on the State Road 429 capacity improvement projects from south of Florida’s Turnpike to West Road to State Road 414 early this year.

Flex Lanes already are operational on portions of SR 417. You can learn more about this new technology here.

Wrong Way Driving Detection Expansion Underway

CFX is expanding its life-saving, Wrong Way Driving Detection system. The agency is making great progress in adding the detection devices to ramps throughout its 125-mile expressway system. Work is ongoing to deploy 29 additional Wrong Way Driving systems onto our roadways, with the goal of having 100% coverage on all ramps feeding into the system by the end of 2025.

Currently, 63 wrong-way driving detection systems have been installed on ramps across the expressway system. These systems have prevented more than 2,000 vehicles from entering the expressway the wrong way on CFX roads. To learn more about this project, click here.

Congratulations winners! The 12 Days of E-PASS just concluded on Friday, December 13 and 12 lucky winners took home $100 in tolls.
