At CFX's February Board meeting, Sissinio Concas, Ph.D., Program Director of the Center for Urban Transportation Research (CUTR) at the University of South Florida, presented findings from a recent study of CFX’s 2020-2024 Five-Year Work Plan. The study assessed how the Work Plan is expected to contribute to the economy of the Central Florida region and benefit drivers on CFX expressways.

The study found that CFX's 2020-2024 Five-Year Work Plan will:
  • Save area households and business an average of 62 travel hours and $367 million in fuel costs each year
  • Reduce costs related to travel and accidents by $308 million
  • Reduce harmful emissions costs by $20.8 million
  • Create an estimated 5,224 jobs annually in the Central Florida region, plus generate an additional 719 jobs elsewhere in Florida

Q: I have an E-PASS, so why does a light flash when I go through a toll plaza in the E-PASS lanes?

A: The flash you might see is connected to the new tolling technology system that is being installed throughout the CFX system. This upgraded technology improves interoperability and enables CFX to better serve customers while decreasing maintenance costs. Installation on all CFX toll plazas is expected to be complete in 2021.
SR 528 Improvements Underway

Work is expected to be complete in early 2021. Read more here.

SR 429 Interchange Improvements
In January, work began on the SR 429/New Independence Parkway Interchange improvements project. CFX will widen the southbound SR 429 ramp to New Independence Parkway and install new signals at the interchange.

The project is expected to take approximately six months, with completion anticipated this summer. Read more here.
