After nearly four years of construction, CFX has reached a major milestone – adding a new travel lane in each direction to SR 417 between International Drive and State Road 528. Expanding the expressway from four to six lanes is the latest CFX investment in transportation and technologies to address rapid growth and to enhance the quality of life in Central Florida.
With about 86,000 vehicles using this stretch daily, the SR 417 improvements will help the increasing number of drivers reach their destinations more quickly and easily. The 21 miles of improvements included: adding a new flyover at Landstar Boulevard, enhancing several ramps to and from SR 417, and replacing the tolling system at the Narcoossee Road ramp plaza with cashless technology. Other improvements included:
- New Wrong-Way Driving Detection devices to enhance safety
- 30 noise walls to reduce traffic noise in nearby communities
- More than 200 new overhead signs and intelligent transportation system devices to enhance operations
- More than 1,000 new light poles for easier navigation and safer travel
In addition, CFX implemented Flex Lanes - a new incident management initiative. When an incident closes one or more of the right lanes, the new technology installed in the form of dynamic signs is activated to indicate which lanes are open or closed. A new, wider median shoulder is then opened to keep traffic moving.
$440M of your toll dollars were put back into the community to provide better access and easier travel to the Orlando metro area, airports, theme parks and more.
