SR 534 Public Meeting Held: Planning the First Five Miles of a 14-Mile Expressway

In November, CFX hosted public meetings for State Road 534, a new expressway that will help relieve traffic congestion in a fast-growing area of Orange and Osceola counties.

More than 180 people attended in-person and virtual public meetings on November 12 and 13 to learn about the first leg of the new 14-mile expressway and to share their feedback.

SR 534 has been part of various regional planning efforts since 2005 and has undergone several studies and many public meetings to gather feedback from the community and government partners. CFX’s plans for the limited-access toll road balance regional transportation needs with environmental stewardship.

Phase 1 of the project includes the five-mile section between SR 417 near Boggy Creek Road and Narcoossee Road, and will improve connectivity to Orlando International Airport, and help to relieve congestion on local roads.

SR 515 Northeast Connector Expressway Phase 2 PD&E Study Update

As part of a regional transportation corridor for Osceola County, CFX is continuing it’s PD&E Study for the State Road 515 Northeast Connector. The northern most end of SR 515 will connect to SR 534, a 14-mile expressway in currently in design and construction.

CFX has reached the halfway mark in the State Road 515 Northeast Connector Expressway Phase 2 Project Development and Environment (PD&E) Study. This new 15-20-mile corridor will extend from Florida’s Turnpike (State Road 91) northeast to US 192 and continue north toward the planned SR 534 expressway.

In recent developments, the study team has narrowed down the number of corridors that will undergo further study to evaluate and identify the recommended alignment that minimizes environmental and community impacts. Further study of the remaining corridors will determine a recommended alignment, anticipated to be presented to the CFX governing board in late 2026.

Recently Completed SR 417 Flex Lanes Receives Award

The American Society of Highway Engineers (ASHE) Central Florida recognized CFX’s State Road 417 widening project with the 2025 Project of the Year Award.

This project features the first Flex Lanes in the Southeastern United States, giving drivers a smarter, safer way to keep moving during incidents. By doubling the capacity on SR 417 to six lanes and enhancing the corridor with Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) upgrades, lighting and landscaping, this project strengthens mobility, enhances safety and supports the region’s continued growth. Through our collaboration with our Regional Transportation Management Center in District 5, we are safely and efficiently moving people when an incident happens on the system.

This honor joins two additional awards received in 2025 from major industry associations in highlighting CFX’s commitment to leading Central Florida with next-generation transportation solutions.
