Two proposed expressways advance from the study phase to design and construction. In its October meeting, the CFX Governing Board unanimously approved the Project Development and Environment (PD&E) Study and preferred routes for both the Poinciana Parkway Extension and the Lake/Orange County Connector. Design for both projects is expected to begin in spring 2020.

The Poinciana Parkway Extension will extend the expressway approximately three miles north to County Road 532 at the Osceola County/Polk County line, easing traffic congestion and improving regional connectivity for Osceola County drivers. You can read more about the project here or follow the project’s Facebook page for updates.

The future 5-mile Lake/Orange County Connector will provide a nonstop access route linking heavily traveled U.S. 27 in south Lake County to State Road (S.R.) 429 in west Orange County. Click here to read about this PD&E study, and follow project updates on Facebook.
The CFX Governing Board adopted a new Pay By Plate toll rate to go into effect July 1, 2020. The new rate is being established in response to CFX’s increasing cost to collect tolls from drivers who choose not to pay tolls with cash nor use E-PASS or a similar electronic transponder, such as E-PASS. E-PASS customers and drivers who pay tolls with cash will not be impacted by the new Pay By Plate rate.

Currently, drivers who prefer to receive a Pay By Plate invoice in the mail pay the cash rate plus a 20-cent transaction fee per toll. Starting July 1, Pay By Plate drivers will be invoiced for tolls at twice the electronic rate. The rate will be posted on roadside signage at all CFX toll collection points. Pay By Plate customers are encouraged to get E-PASS prior to July 1 to ensure they always pay the lowest toll rate. You can see all the benefits of E-PASS here.
CFX also shared plans to release a new Pay By Plate payment feature in the E-PASS mobile app in spring 2020. The feature will provide customers with a convenient method to pay toll invoices right from their smartphone. Plus, for a limited time customers who take advantage of this new feature will qualify to save up to 40% off their total outstanding Pay By Plate balance when they sign up for E-PASS. Customers will have the option to get a free E-PASS sticker or free Portable when opening their new account. Download the E-PASS app for iOS from the App Store or for Android from the Google Play Store.

A new traffic pattern on southbound SR 417 to SR 408 will begin Monday, Oct. 28.

All drivers going to SR 408 from southbound SR 417 will take the ramp at Exit 33, located one mile before the existing Exit 33A, and then follow signs either to westbound SR 408 or eastbound SR 408. Click here to view a map of the new configuration.

This will be the third ramp to open as part of SR 417/SR 408 interchange improvements project. Northbound SR 417 to westbound SR 408 is scheduled to open later this year.
