CFX Marks Major Milestone with Completion of a SR 417 Widening Project

CFX completed work to widen a 3.2 mile section of SR 417 between Econlockhatchee Trail and the Seminole County line, expanding the expressway from four to six lanes (three travel lanes in each direction). This $44.8 million project also added two additional lanes at the University Boulevard Main Plaza.

“Historically, the northern corridor of SR 417 has been one of the busiest locations on our system because of the ever-increasing number of commuters traveling from Seminole and Volusia Counties,” stated CFX Executive Director Laura Kelley. “The completion of this project, along with the recent completion of the SR 417/SR 408 interchange, means improved connectivity for the Central Florida community and reduced travel times for our customers.”

CFX began work in 2010 with the widening of SR 417 from SR 528 to Curry Ford Road and continued northward in segments to reduce the impact to motorists. The completion of this project marks a major milestone in CFX’s decade-long initiative to widen and improve the 12-mile SR 417 northern corridor.

FDOT’s I-4 Ultimate Project Team opened the new eastbound SR 408 ramp to Orange Avenue (Exit 10B) on September 12. On September 17, the temporary U-turn at Mills Avenue was eliminated and the tolls at the eastbound SR 408 ramp plaza to Mills Avenue were reinstated.
