A Message from Our CEO

Custom Cars, Cocktails & Change a Great Success!
On Saturday, May 4, 2019, Vehicles for Change hosted its inaugural car show, Custom Cars, Cocktails and Change!

More than 150 guests joined us at our garage in Halethorpe, Maryland to view our collection of rare vehicles and support our mission.
At the event...
We celebrated in true Vehicles for Change fashion by awarding two vehicles to families in need. Our recipients included Ms. Beatrice Commodore and Ms. Aniya Hunter. Congratulations, Beatrice and Aniya!
We honored Chris Nelson as our Graduate of the Year! After graduating the Full Circle training program, Chris began working for Heritage Honda in Harford County. Every week, he uses one of his days off to volunteer at VFC, encouraging and helping current trainees. LEARN MORE about Chris' story.
Summer Car Care Tips
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but car care doesn't take a vacation between Memorial Day and Labor Day!

The warmer months present some challenges to personal transportation and maintenance, but this list will help us all have a summer we can enjoy.

Here are top tips to keeping your car -- and its passengers -- in good shape this summer:
There is usually a serpentine belt that runs between the alternator, the fan and several other components. It can deteriorate, become loose, start to squeal, and sometimes just break for no apparent reason. It needs to be in good condition and at the right amount of tension. If you see cracks in the belt or small pieces missing, it's time to replace the belt!
Check oil, brake, power-steering and windshield-washer fluids regularly. These liquids never stop being used and consumed. Speaking of brake fluid, how do the brakes on your car feel in general? Are they lacking in bite? Feeling a bit spongy? If so, new pads and a system bleed might be required.
The winter's decomposing leaves may be clogging up drainage points, windshield-washer nozzles or your car's air filter. Now might be a good time to buy a new one or take the current one out and give it a cleaning.
Keep your engine cool. Cooling systems protect engines from overheating and should be flushed periodically, as recommended by the vehicle manufacturer. Between flushes, make sure the coolant is filled to the proper level by checking the overflow reservoir.
Check and monitor your tire pressure. Between hitting hidden potholes and dealing with difficult road conditions, your tires deserve a good check-up. The truth is, tires lose or gain pressure daily depending on the outside temperature. Did you know tires with low air pressure wear out faster?
“Summer heat accelerates the rate of fluid loss and resulting oxidation of battery components, which can leave you stranded without warning,” says Steve Fox, Director of Automotive Services for  AAA  Idaho. “Most people don’t realize that heat is the number one cause of battery failure and reduced battery life,” he adds.

Congratulations, Monique!
Since 1999, Vehicles for Change has awarded more than 6,300 low-cost vehicles to low-income families throughout Baltimore and beyond.

One of our most recent recipients, Monique, is a working mother of two daughters and one son. Originally from Washington D.C., Monique now resides in Lansdowne. However, Monique’s job is 40 miles away in Rockville. For Monique, getting to work without a car meant trying to catch rides with friends or take Lyfts...
