Here's Why You Should
This summer, I had the opportunity to drive across the country, from North Carolina to Colorado. My husband and I have never lived outside of the 2-hour drive from Charlotte to Raleigh, and we decided it was time to experience somewhere new. We chose Colorado Springs.
We packed our house into a 26’ U-Haul, loaded our dog and five chickens into the Toyota, and set out for the Rockies. With the help of our adult daughters, we drove over 1,700 miles and more than 26 hours over a three-day period.
Each state between North Carolina and Colorado offered something magnificent and unique. For example, as a native of North Carolina, I never stopped appreciating that I could visit the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Atlantic Ocean in one day.
Virginia and West Virginia offered unparalleled landscapes with constantly changing vantage points as we climbed and descended mountains along I-77 and I-64. We continued along I-64 through Kentucky with rolling green hills, horse farms, and bourbon distilleries.
We spent a short time in Illinois before we picked up I-70 just before the Missouri state line at the Mississippi River. Crossing the river was a highlight for us as we moved through downtown St. Louis. From here, we were anticipating great Bar-B-Que in Kansas City.
