OBAT volunteers distribute the meat
You helped feed 55,000 people this Eid-ul-Adha

Eid-ul-Adha is a festival celebrated by the camp residents. The occasion requires Muslims to sacrifice animals (known as qurbani) to commemorate the sacrifice made by Prophet Abraham. Meat from animals is distributed  mostly among the poor and deserving. OBAT accepts qurbani donations and carries out the animal sacrfices on the donors' behalf. The meat is distributed in the camps and is one of the rare occasions when the residents get to enjoy eating it. This year, with your contributions, 151 goats and 87 cows were sacrificed and meat was distributed amongst 55,000 people in 46 camps across Bangladesh. OBAT's president and founder, Mr. Anwar Khan was able to distribute the meat himself in the city of Rangpur where he was present for Eid. For more photos of the meat distribution, please

Digital literacy program begins for local Bangladeshi community

The very first class of digital learning was conducted by OBAT in Kotha Koli Kindergarten School, (a local, private school) for kids outside the camp community in Ukhiya. During the first class of this supplementary course provided by OBAT, our facilitators worked at familiarizing the kids with the tabs. The facilitators also work with the teachers to build their capacity.  We started with 25 students in the host community and will be scaling to more students in other local and Rohingya communities as well.

Our goal is to help build a strong foundation in numeracy and literacy in the children. It is our immense pleasure to be able to serve the local community as well. This program is executed in partnership with Teach the World Foundation (TTWF).

Three former students received special awards as they have been earning an income which is running their households, with the help of the sewing skills they acquired at the center.
