Pedal to the Metal

Creators, start your needles (or sewing machines or crochet hooks)! We need your blankets! In a little more than 6 months, the cold will be back upon the northern hemisphere and people experiencing homelessness all across the nation will be doubling down, trying to survive.

Homelessness isn't just physically painful. It's emotionally exhausting and intellectually draining. It's a horribly lonely feeling and plagues all ages, from infancy to elderly.

Your handmade blankets provide warmth, and they carry a message. The message is, "You matter."

Want a little company and extra incentive to speed you on your way? Join us for the blanket-in-a-day event on June 28th from 9am to 3 pm at Carlisle Summerfair at Dickinson College Campus, 60 S. College Street / W High Street. We'll be putting those needles or hooks together to create squares that will later be assembled into a blanket made to wrap an unhoused person in handmade love.

Thank you for what you're doing. Your kindness matters more than you know.

Keeping Warm Down Under

As the cold weather settles in on the southern hemisphere, our friends down under are getting ready to ship their contribution to the Homeless Remembrance Blanket Project. Kim's Magic Blankets will once again send their beautiful work from Sydney!

Last year - with input from Australia, Canada, and Germany, #memorialblanket became an international cry for understanding and help for our neighbors experiencing homelessness AND a beautiful artistic collaboration created by artisans from all over. If you know someone who'd like to participate, please share this newsletter and invite them to sign up for these updates.

To make it easier for you to contribute important news to the feeds, you can use the old standby #memorialblanket to get your post directly to our social media sites. Better yet, we have the additional hashtags related specifically to unhoused children, #youthhomelessness, #babiesneedus and #babiesinhomelessness. Keep those posts coming!
