The DFC Support Program is hosting a webinar to bring coalitions from across geographies and grant years together virtually to learn about youth suicide prevention, and strategies and tools that can be implemented into coalition activities.
During this webinar, Shamia Moore of CDC Division of Injury Prevention’s Suicide Prevention Team will discuss national trends on suicide among youth, including a focus on youth who are at increased risk for suicide behavior, and prevention strategies and tools that can be implemented in coalition activities. Dr. Wanda Boone of the Together for Resilience Youth (T.R.Y.) Coalition in Durham, NC will discuss emerging trends in suicide behavior among African American youth in North Carolina and local prevention efforts that promote positive childhood experiences.

Shamia Moore, MPH, CDC Division of Injury Prevention
Shamia Moore is a Health Scientist on the Suicide Prevention Team in the CDC’s Division of Injury Prevention where she works on the Comprehensive Suicide Prevention and Tribal Suicide Prevention Programs. She received her Master of Public Health in Global Health from Emory University in 2018. Prior to joining CDC, Shamia conducted research and evaluation at the Rollins School of Public Health. These projects primarily focused on promoting engagement in HIV care and mental health services among sexual and racial minority youth living with HIV.
Wanda Boone, PhD, RN, Together for Resilience Youth
Dr. Wanda Boone founded Together for Resilient Youth in 2000. She is a forerunner and recognized as an expert in the field of Resilience/Adverse Childhood Experiences and trauma informed living. She is a RN, Sr. RA, Duke University Medical Center and holds a PhD in Theology and Public Health. Dr Boone is the Chair, Health and Safety Chair Durham Committee of the Affairs of Black People, member of the National Collaborative for Effective Prescription Opioid Policies (including prevention), the National Society of Prevention Sciences, and Co-Chair, NC Adverse Childhood Experiences and Resilience Advisory Board. She served as the Co-Chair of the National Institutes of Medicine Healthy NC 2030 Social and Economic Factors work group focusing on the impact of trauma and the importance of resilience.
