COVID-19 Resources for Planning and Response On Tuesday, March 9, 2020, Gov. JB Pritzker declared a “State of Emergency” in response to COVID-19 to better prepare the State of Illinois for the next steps in this effort. The proclamation provides a way for state and local governments, including the DuPage County Health Department (DCHD) to receive federal funds for our planning and response efforts. This also helps the state to better assist county and local governments, and to procure emergency supplies and equipment if needed. DCHD and the DuPage County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (OHSEM) work together daily to keep our communities safe from the spread of infectious disease. This proclamation is an important part of the process for DuPage County to continue to work together to minimize the interruption to our social, economic and healthcare environments.

The following guidance is provided by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). What is COVID-19? COVID-19 is a new respiratory illness. COVID-19 is the abbreviation of “coronavirus disease 2019”. The illness is caused by a virus named SARS-CoV-2, which is part of a group of viruses known as human coronaviruses. The virus was first identified during an investigation into an illness outbreak in Wuhan, China in December 2019. What can you do about this illness outbreak? During an illness outbreak, the more educated and prepared you are, the lower the health, the lower the impact on your family and community.
