As the DuPage County Health Department (DCHD) continues to closely monitor and respond to the fast-changing outbreak of the novel (new) coronavirus known as COVID-19, we feel it’s important to share this information. The following guidance is provided by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
What is COVID-19?
COVID-19 is a new respiratory illness. COVID-19 is the abbreviation of “coronavirus disease 2019”. The illness is caused by a virus named SARS-CoV-2, which is part of a group of viruses known as human coronaviruses. The virus was first identified during an investigation into an illness outbreak in Wuhan, China in December 2019.
What can you do about this illness outbreak?
During an illness outbreak, the more educated and prepared you are, the lower the health, the lower the impact on your family and community.
