Your One-Credit Course Registration

Sign up by 4:00 pm this Tuesday, January 29 , to enroll in a one credit course. Registration entitles you to use of the SOU Hannon Library for the duration of the term, and it benefits SOU, OLLI and OLLI instructors, too.

A list of approved courses is on the back of the purple One Credit registration forms that are available in the Campbell Center office and classrooms, and at the HEC in Medford, or you may click here to download the form (PDF) and the list of approved courses.

Spotlight on Shared Interest Groups: Common Good

Let’s examine positive ideas on how to create a better society. These can be your own or others’ ideas, or you can propose a reflection on desirable ideals. This group is intended to focus on positive ideas. We will use current negative conditions only as a framework and a background for our positive reflections on what is desirable and may be possible. Our gatherings will give you a chance to learn from each other, get feedback, and nurture political optimism. A movie and discussion is in the works for winter term. Bylaws Ballot: Coming Soon to your Mailbox

The Bylaws change proposal ballots will be sent out this week. An electronic ballot will be sent to members with an individual email address. Members without email or who share an email address with another member will be mailed a paper ballot. Click here to review the proposed Bylaws changes. Ballots must be received in the OLLI office by 4:00 pm on Friday, February 8.

Honoring OLLI's Past Presidents

This week we honor Diana Quirk as the 4th President of SOLIR from 1996-1997. Diana worked in almost every volunteer position at OLLI, including teaching, office work, and Classroom Host. SOLIR was growing quickly during these years, and Diana often worked 30 hours a week trying to keep up with everything. The office staff consisted of single volunteer typist. SOLIR obviously needed help, so Diana was responsible for getting the first office staff hired. She was also involved in writing the first job descriptions for volunteer positions. Bill Anderson was the 5th SOLIR president from 1997-1998. We were unable to interview him.

Upcoming Free Events at SOU

The Schneider Museum of Art (SMA) presents a weekly lecture by Visiting Curators and SOU Faculty on the Campus Theme: From Ignorance to Wisdom. These events are free and the public is welcome. This week's presenter is Scott Malbaurn, SMA Director. Click here for the schedule of lectures.
